First one for 2015 " BingaLor's Little brother"

the more I look at that clip, the more I like it. From an ergonomic perspective, clips genreally are a huge pain in the ass. We tend to overlook that aspect for the most part because most of us like having a knife clipped within easy reach in our pockets, and don't use knives like this long enough and hard enough to develop a callous where the clip is. I have, though, from time to time and must say that I don't like having blisters in the middle of my hand.

Many of the folders I've seen, have ill conceived pocket clips, seemingly added as an afterthought, that really interrupt the interface between user and tool, and that's not a good thing. Even in the name of convenience.

Bing, I think you made the right decision for this particular knife. The additional surface upon which to show your sweet damascus is shaped in such a way that it shouldn't cause problems, should the knife be used hard over long periods of time. I disagree that it's problematic, and I don't feel that it detracts from this knife at all.

For the record, when I bought the first Bingalor I asked Bing if it could be made with a pocket clip. He advised me that he could do that and was planning to make another smaller version and would include the clip. He suggested doing the damascus, which I really like. So, He was accommodating my request, although I think he was considering it regardless.

I carry one of Bing's CF flippers, which also has a clip and I wouldn't want to carry it any other way. It makes it easy to access and the flipper makes it easy to deploy. I use it regularly but I've never used it long enough at one time to be bothered by the clip.

I understand some folks don't like pocket clips. It really makes you appreciate custom knives. You can have it your way!!!

Lorien....you are discounting the fact that you don't have a lot of experience in the grand scheme, using or designing folders....and therefore, don't know a whole lot....empirically....so....shut your piehole.

oh, you salty dog, you!

Guess I chose the correct response this time :D

That being said, I'm confused by why I should shut my piehole

It was more of a jokey, friendly banter than anything.....but...since you ask....because aesthetically and functionally, a clip that long just doesn't work.

You see things through your eyes...optimistically, and fresh.

I have the benefit of many more years in the game, and frankly, I see with an eye tuned more to commercial viability and consensus.

You are free to see the clip length as a non-issue....but that doesn't make it fact.

The knife looks like you could pop your collar and give it a wink, and it would just spring right open.

ah, saying it that way makes so much more sense to me.

Consider this; I hadn't designed a clip for this knife or for this knife to have a clip. Therefore, a lot of what I was saying in that post had to do with the problem of clips in general, and incorporating them into a handle. Only at the end did I comment on whether or not I felt the clip, as it is, detracts from this knife.

I still disagree with you, and not because I'm optimistic or fresh, but for the reasons I laid out. So maybe I was setting the stage for disagreeing with you, I'll give you that :)

That being said, I DO think Bing's judgement here was sound, and that a half inch or even and inch shorter could cause some of the problems I talked about experiencing myself with knives whose clips don't end in the right spot. Sure, I'll grant you that, aesthetically a relatively longer clip, (this is a small knife, remember) might be a turn off, but lots of things are turn offs- some of the worst of which for a folding knife is an ergonomically designed handle with a clip that causes hotspots.

I like how the clip is almost equidistant from either end of the mammoth, and aesthetically, that's one of the elements that make it work for me. That's not a fact, it's just my opinion

I don't see the length of the clip as a non issue, in fact the opposite is true. I just disagree with you that it is too long.

Now the one big takeaway that I have here is your mention of commercial viability. In that regard, all of your suggestions have serious credibility, and I would happily incorporate all of them, if requested, should the opportunity arise to produce this pattern for the mass market.

Bing and I have already discussed the possibility of that, and I insisted that we share in the royalty fees.

Sooooo...if you know anybody out there looking for designs...we can provide a prototype :)

Hi Mr. Bing. Nice to see your wonderful folders again. I am not disappointed with the mammoth folder and the walrus ivory and damascus knife. Hope to see you again to get another.

Really like the smaller proportion on this one and I'm a huge fan of the dark ivory. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to put my greasy paws on this one before it was shipped out. But after handling quite a few of Bing's flippers there's no doubt doubt in my mind the execution is flawless and the "flip" is ultra smooth and crisp.

Beautiful work my friend!

Constantino, Glad to see you posting here. Hope all is well with you and family. So sad to not get to San Antonio. If you can make to trip to Little Rock in February. Would make a nice replacement show for you.

Ahhhhhhhhh, sorry to interrupt the wonderful flow of the thread.

I was referred to you, "Mr. Bing," on another thread on this forum, specifically on a search for beautiful flippers. This BingaLor Junior is TERRIFIC! It comes as close to my "next knife" as I have seen anywhere.

However, I can find none of your knives which might be available.

Where are the best places to look for your folders? Is there a line forming?

Thank you!

Burgh, I will be at the Seattle International Knife show next month. I see you are from the Pacific Northwest. Come check it out. It will be at the Bellevue Hilton this year.
