Hey all, I just got done testing out a blade out of the new kiln, Im really liking the thing.....and im sure Ill like it even more once i figure out what all the buttons and settings do:confused:.

Anyway, I had a customer that wanted a knife, built but was concerened:eek: about battoning with a knife because of the deep finger choil I use alot of times.

So to eliminate any worries, and to ease my own curiousity I tested a piece of 1/8'' 1080. The knife was stock removal made, flat ground with a convex edge.

I tried to put as much stress as possible on the tip, and choil area by directing majority of the blows with the rawhide mallet on those areas.

I was pretty satisfyed with the results:rolleyes:, I mean nothing to write home about, but not to shabby for a first attempt:D.

Thanks for looking.

and sorry for the :barf:leg shot:barf:, but i dont wear shorts much.

as long as there are no hard 90 degree corners at the choil I wouldn't expect any problems whatsoever with battoning

Glad you got your oven and that you like it. Those are nice looking handle slabs, finish it up and post a pic!

Looks like it performs just like it was supposed to. That was a decent bit of abuse, and it shaved better than my Gillette.

Might have to look into one of those kilns.
