So I have someone from instagram that is wanting one of my knives and he is willing to pay me once its finished. I have never sold any knives over the internet yet and was hoping for some advice.
I know about paypal but I'm not sure I want to sign up for that yet because I'm not sure how many more online sales I will get. I was thinking about trying to do a money transfer through Western Union?
Are there better ways to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

Yup, safest for the seller is a Postal Money Order or Wire Transfer depending on the dollar figure. The MO can be cashed right at the post office.

Safest for the buyer is PayPal because their dispute resolution process favors the buyer.

Wow so I could cash it at post office and send the knife off at the same time, sounds like that's way to go.

Yup, that's the way to go with unknown people. You have green cash in hand, and the buyer can be notified of tracking number very soon.

That's how I sold a few holsters a while back. Transaction now complete, with no waiting for money to clear, or unnecessary refund claims.

Because of some "clients" I'm really pissed off for paypal.
Save your nerves, don't use paypal.

Paypal doesn't charge much for their services, but it does add up when you're talking about sales over $100. It doesn't cost you anything to set up an account and you don't have to carry a monthly balance or anything like that.

A USPS money order is great if you can get the customer to actually go to the post office, get one, mail it to you, etc. If they're really interested in your product, that's absolutely the best way to go because it doesn't cost you anything. Every other service I'm aware of will charge you a percentage of the total sale value.

When I talked to my bank about doing a wire transfer, they told me it would cost $30! I thought they were out of their minds and haven't tried to look further into it.

US Banks are still in stoneage if going to Online transfers...

In PL we have free online transfers in country and about 10$ for international transfer.

Always cash the money order first, especially if you don't know the buyer (at least by reputation); and always cash at a post office - if it's fake, or stolen, you'll know on the spot. If you have to deposit it, wait for it to clear (just like a check).

You fellows all know the rules. Registered users are not allowed to discuss selling and sales of their knives. That is a privilege of a Knifemaker Membership.
Responding to these threads just encourages the non-compliant posts and makes you part of it.

BallewBlade - You have been here five years as a registered user. You clearly know this rule.
