Hi All,

I returned from Mississippi yesterday having felt the residual of Gustov and suffered a great deal of rain there. Made work that much easier to do. Anyhow, I arrived to find a couple of new knives waiting for me from Bryan Breeden. I haven't had the time to put these through their paces yet but I have fondled them enough to know what I like about them.

The first is a modified Kat Knife with a PSK handle. The handle is 4" long and 1/4" thick osage slabs. Blade is 3.5" long and 3/32" thick. This little blade actually feels pretty stiff and is a perfect size for slicing and general cutting. I did spend a bit of time thinning this one down on the grind stone and it is nicely shaving sharp now.

I will probably sand down the front edges of the slabs a bit this weekend. The handle feels perfect in my hand. It is long enough to fit my hand without any excess handle length keeping it nice and compact. The wood is warm to the touch. Perhaps not the grippiest, but the dip in the front edge acts as a sufficient guard.

Bryan really out-did himself on the sheathes of these two. The leather is soft to the touch, has great colour and excellent blade retention. As much as I love Kydex, I just might stick with the leather pants on these guys. That brown leather and osage handle seem very balanced together.

The second is Bryan's Peacemaker Model. This one is a 6" blade with 4.5" handle. Blade thickness is 1/8" and blade width is 1.5". It is basically the same knife that JeffH reviewed last week. The peacemaker arrived very sharp, easily shaving hair. I didn't bother touching up this one.

Again, the handle feels really good in the hand. Lots of room, but not too long.

The Peacemaker is definately more meaty in girth and weight than its 5" pathfinder brother. As discussed in JeffH's review, it has a sort of classic, simple look to it. I really love the 1/8" blade thickness and even though it is longer in length, it has a bit more stiffness than the pathfinder due to the greater blade width.

So far, I'm very pleased with the feel and appearance of these knives. I'm going to make sure I get out in the bush on Sunday to test them out. I'll re-post here once I get some of that testing completed.

Hope you enjoyed the picks.

I really like the PSK handle on a Kat blade. Give us some whittling pics when you get a chance.

kgd,
When I first saw your Kat knife, I stopped feely badly about not having asked Bryan to make mine yet. After seeing that handle, I decided that's what I wanted even though I hadn't know it. That has to be a great combo. I get far more use out of my smaller blades than my larger ones - atcually, I don't think I own a blade over 4 1/4" anymore but am going to give the Peacemake a "go" with a 5" blade and will probably do my handles on the two to match - like you have done.

Thanks for sharing - would love to hear (see,.... pics) how the pair serves when you get them outside.

Hi all, Glad you like them kgd. I look for ward to hearing and seeing what you think when you get them out in the field and work them over.
I bet your wife is glad to have her knife back. LOl
I am glad you like the leather I got some just a little thinner this time.
Thanks every one for all the comments and kgd's knives that I made for him.
Red liners with the tan and green handles I might have to try that Bear.
Chat with you later,

Bryan

Thanks for the comps guys. I have to say that I will probably get much more use out of the Kat knife as an EDC. A 3.5" blade seems about right for about 90% of the tasks I use a knife for.

I did want to have a 6" blade for those rarer times when I specifically want a camp knife and the peacemaker seems like a 'do all' camp knife for wood gathering and food prep. Again I have to reaffirm the increase in blade stiffness afforded by the wider blade width. There is zero flex in this one and it feels like a thicker blade.

I just might stick the peacemaker in my butcher block with the rest of my kitchen knives until nature calls it for a tour of duty. This thing will be great for some of the heavier kitchen chores like cutting chickens in half or beheading salmon (which usually makes my Wustoff's balk). I'll have to give it a good patina before I go that route though.

Bryan - the sheaths are perfect - or at least exactly how I like them. Many thanks!

Thanks for the photos kgd. Bryan is making a similar modded Kat for me as well. Should be ready real soon. :D

I love the larger of the two! and I am in the maket for a camp knife......:D

The first thing I thought of when I saw the first knife was Busse Active Duty without the stupid choil. Looks like a really nice knife. Wouldn't mind one myself except I'm never buying another knife.

those look great. Bryan sure does some beautiful work. I can wait to get the one that he is making for me.

So Doc, on this forum instead of 3 great lies there are 4.

Doc - the last time you said that, you went and bought yourself another Bravo-1 ;)

p.s. I proclaimed the same thing to my wife and but then thankfully remembered that I still have to buy an Izula, a Gossman PSK (154cm?), a tram. to fit my new machete sheath and maybe a few others.....
