First Post - An Introduction

Wow! Thanks for the welcome James Todd and richard j! The replies are coming in faster than I can type. This is a great forum as I have been checking it out since March but waited until today to post. I have so many questions to ask but they will have to wait until next week or so. I have to sign off for a while now to work on Sunday's Service.

James Todd - my family is originally from Cullman County, Alabama and we were all coal miners. My ancestry is Welsh and we settled there.

Bye for now,

One more thank you to Butcher1 and thanks for the link!!! I will check back in a few hours after I square away my sermon for tomorrow. Bye all!

Welcome thinline, you might want to look at something Spyderco. Don't let those who don't understand your passion for practical tools get you down:)

Welcome to the greatest knife forum on the net! Be careful though, it can get addicting. Have fun trying all the great cutlery this world has to offer.

Be sure and fill out profiles so we will know some more about you. I am not far from Cullman.
Sing the Praises Loudly for me too,

So far I've ordered 2 knives from elinemerchandising.com and had no problems with them. Good prices and prompt shipping. The first one I ordered they were out of stock but the site had it listed as in stock. Garret emailed and apologized for the mix up. He said if I was still interested in the knife when he got more in stock I could have it for the price that I had originally ordered it for because it was on sale. Sure enough, he emailed me about a week or two later to let me know he got more in and made good on his offer ( SOG Flash I with the TiNi combo edge blade).

Also I just picked these up from the Sales Forum. A Boker M-3 and a Trance. I REALLY dig the short fat blade on the Trance . M-3 on top and Trance below it.

Thinline, New Graham Knives and Knife Works are a couple of good places to start.

As far as the comments below our posts, those are called "signatures". When you log in, go to User CP and click on Edit Signature and put whatever you want in there and save changes. It will show up everytime you post a message.

Welcome to the forums Thinline. That a great little collection you've got so far. Please, stick around...

BTW, Thinline, if you wish to receive emails only from members, (no spam is ever sent from BladeForums), please change that option in the CP options. I tried to send you a message and you have emails turned off.

Greetings,

I apologize for the delay in responding to your replies and welcomes. As one might expect Sunday - Wednesday are the busiest time for me with Service Development, meetings, Bible Study, and Men's Group meetings. I only have Thursdays off and Saturday free - but I use Saturday afternoon and evening to prep Music portion of Service to Sermon. That is why I am late in replying.

Thanks to IUKE, BJE, 1kimo4u and Kaizen1 for the welcome.

James Todd - When I am finished typing this response I shall edie my profile to receive emails from members. This may sound strict - but my Church Council asked me not to give out specifics on ID or location because of their concern what might happen if the General Council were to get wind of my little hobby. Not everyone is understanding and I have to be careful and exercise wisdom. I tried to access your knives for sale but there is something wrong with my PC because pages would not load. I ran a virus program today and found 5 viruses. Hopefully, all will work smoothly now. If I see something I like I'll buy it from you since you were one of the first to welcome me here to the community. Back in the day Cullman County, Alabama was a "dry" county and my Grandpappy was a moonshiner. He was caught many times and finally his Uncle who was Sheriff told him to leave Cullman or be faced with jail time. He relocated to another state and that is where my large family lives now. He was a character!!! My Dad likes to watch the movie "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman because that is how his Dad was.

Rich357: Thanks for showing me the beautiful pictures of the Strider and Sebenza models. Is the Sebenza Chris Reeves make or Strider? I just read an article in Tactical Knives on Chris Reeves Sebenzas and how they cost more than other brands. The author compared knives to different classes of watches and it was a "you get what you pay for " summation. I have to purchase a digital camera and upgrade my membership so I can learn how to take pictures of each new knife I purchase and post. I'd like to purchase a Strider and Sebenza knife at some point soon. Thanks again!

XD45: I LOVE THE BOKER TRANCE!!! Very cool. It looks like my fingers would be well protected from the blade by the flipper mechanism. That is something I look for in a knife. I don't care for knives where it is easy for the user to cut his hand because of lack of some form of finger guard or a poorly thought out handle design. I like handles with some form of finger groove for the index finger at the very least. That is why I love the CRKT TRIUMPH design.

Thanks again for the tips as to where great internet dealers are and for responding to my introduction. I am going to become a paid member to help support the forum and for the additional benefits.

All My Best,

ThinLine

Hi Thinline,

You're welcome!

The Sebenza is made by Chris Reeve. Both the SnG and Large Classic Sebenza are close to $400. Both are well made but very different.

The Large Sebenza in the photo had the optional Micarta Inlays and is, I think $455.

Welcome to the forums, Thinline. You have a good collection in the works. A worthwhile expense to compliment your new hobby might be to become a paying member of BF (if you haven't already thought of it). Several enhanced features like trading and selling will open up for you. Okay... ignore the previous sentence. I just read up a couple of posts and saw where you're planning to do that very thing! Congratulations.

Some good online dealers have already been mentioned. I usually go to New Graham first, if they handle what I'm looking for. I've also dealt with Plaza Cutlery, BlueLine Gear, Oso Grande, and Grand Prairie. All good.

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks dalefuller for the welcome and the useful list of reputable dealers. My wife returns from a Womens Ministry Retreat this Thursday and I just need to tell her my plans on joining to become a paying member. We make cash outlay decisions together and it will not be a problem since the fee is so nominal.

A great many knives I was interested in are currently out of stock at New Graham
