Just found this site the other day. I've been into Kitchen Knives (Japanese and 45 year old Chicago) and sharpening for quite a while. I want to pick up a few EDCs and have gotten a Buck 346 Vantage and am looking a getting a Buck 843 Sprint and looking for some feedback from some that might have one or knowledge about it. I used to carry a Buck 110 in my early days with the Forest Service now retired after 40 yrs.

Can't go wrong with the 843 it's one if not their best modern folder in the lineup. S45VN or S30V will last a long time in edge retention.

Also recommend the Spitfire if you like a backlock more than a frame/liner lock.

That marbled carbon fiber is a beauty. I have the 841 in tan micarta as well and it's solid.

Welcome logchief.

The Sprint is a great knife!
I was always partial to the Vantage myself.
The Sprint is a much nicer opening knife with a smoother flipping action due to the bearings whereas the Vantage has washers.

I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I've bought a number of them.

When you get it, let us know over on the Buck Knives subform. There's a lot of good people there.

its a good knife. I own a 843 and few others in the sprint line. its on bearings so fast smooth open and close. blade shapes odd, but works well enough. there really isn't anything not to like on it.

welcome to the forums. there is also a Buck forum here.....

Thanks everyone I'm pulling the trigger before my discount expires. I'll check out the Buck forum.

haven't been able to find the Buck sub-forum only a buck manufacturer's forum and not much there

this one^. it's moves okay for a subforum. it has its slow times too. tomorrow is the Sunday Picture Show where folks post pic of Buck knives. a tradition in there....

I have a couple of 841’s and an 842, and they are my three favorite knives. The flipping action is as easy and smooth as any other knife I’ve owned or handled; they lock up nice and solid, but release easily. Ergos are about perfect for me. The 843 is in the same family - I say go for it, you can’t go wrong.

The Sprint line has phenomenal foot and finish and a well thought out design. I liked the original and got a new version as well L logchief I think you're going to love it! The new versions have noticably different action but both have crisp detents.

Some pics to keep you going until you get the mail:

Dammit that looks nice. I might have to do a thing again after I said I wouldn’t.

It's an under the radar sleeper design that I recommend all the time to people looking for an affordable American made knife. I think you get a high amount of value for the materials that you're getting and the carbon fiber that they use is some of the best.

Oh, I know - I have three other sprints, and I couldn’t agree more. I got a birthday coming up in just over a month - I think I’m gonna have to make it four. 😁

If you have time and ability, I would love to see your current setup

I got my 836 Tanto black today and it's seems to be a really nice knife. Definately going to enjoy this one. Registered an avg. 225 out of the box on a Bess Tester. It's such a smooth flipper. I tried to load a pic of my 836 and 346 Vantage but couldn't figure out how to attach it from a file, does this site only allow pics from a URL?

Yup - save your images on a hosting site, then just stick the image link(s) in a post. Or get a gold membership, then you can insert images from pretty much anywhere (totally worth it for this and other benefits!)

Oh shoot, you already have a BESS tester... You're coming in hot. Looks like many of us could learn from you just as much as you could learn from us. Welcome to the forum!
