I just recently got my first Himalayan Imports Khukuri, a Chiruwa Ang Khola. Clearly the khukuri bug has bitten me as I'm already wanting some other variations. I'm eying the WW2 model currently, or maybe the Sirupati...or...well several others...haha.
Anyway I was wondering if someone could ID which Kami made my Chiruwa Ang Khola based on these pics. The mark doesn't resemble any of those I've so far seen in the picture of the various kami marks.

Thanks!

I have one from Lachhu which shows half a sun. Others have a Lachhu trident and now there's a Lachhu full sun too? Cool.
It's just that Sher also had a full sun and a half sun at some point.
I think going by the letters is easier than by the Kami mark.

The U.B. Is for Uncle Bill, who has passed away, that means this khuk was made after Uncle's passing. I am pretty sure the mark is Lachhu, usually, if you had purchased the khuk from Auntie, she will know which kami made it.

Do all recent HIs have UB?
Just a few days back I got a Amar Singh from Lacchu. It has no UB where it's usually. On the other side is the half sun and then on top of it the same letters as on the posted blade ( I assume Lacchu's initials)
How old would the knife which I had purchased here be if there's no U.B. on it? Do maybe some blades have UB written in Nepalese letters?

This is an email I got from auntie concerning the UB initials.

"UB stand for my late husband Uncle Bill.
He worked hard to get the fine Khukuri out of Kami and Nepal and cater forumites and customer around the world with fine knife and helped Kamis kids and family.
He ask me to put the kamis to mark all knives UB after he passed away for memorey.
He passed awasy in year 2005. Yangdu"

I believe the knife was probably made prior to 2005, if there is no UB initial on it, but checking with auntie would probably be your best bet for securing the true production info on it.

Good Luck!

My Trisuli Ghaule has no UB either. Often wondered about that as well. I'll have to look close for the Nepalese letters.

The kamis don't always remember to mark the blades with UB but more often than not they do.

Hi to everyone from this new member. I can read Devanagari so if you have a picture, I will be happy to translate.

Awesome!
Thank you for your help. I tried some online tables with all the letters and failed miserably.
Here is a link to pictures of one of my Kukris. http://www.flickr.com/x/t/0091009/gp/gov/89BuCx/
I am guessing that next to the rising sun it says Lachhu and on the other side UB and then something else. Just guessing since I can't read a single letter.
Thanks again :)

Pleasure to be of some use, I am bloody useless most of the time! I can read the first pic with the sun. The first alphabet is pronounced Ra and the second is B (pronounced more like Bee). Will try to read the set of 4 in a bit when I turn on my computer.

If I'm not mistaken, the other inscripitions on the blade usually mean "BirGorkha" and "Made in Nepal"

Jens, the four characters on your AST (pronouned in English) are bottom left - U, top left - B, bottom right - B, top right - G + o (pronounced Go). I know U.B. stands for Uncle Bill but on the AST Khuk, the way it is written, it reads as V and not B. Maybe because the small dash that differentiates the B from the V is harder to carve. This difference will be clearer if you observe the B (symbol to the right above the sun) Vs. the V (top left and/or bottom right symbols in the second picture) and notice the extra dash (or diagonal - sign) inside the semi-circle.

Philllll that makes sense! It does say B and Go (Bir Gorkha!). Thank you for sharing that info. I would not have guessed what it stands for as only the first characters (and not the complete words) are inscribed.

Circle_10, The first picture reads Ra and B. The second picture reads bottom right - H + e (pronounced He), top right - E (read it as Eee). If I had to put money on it, I would guess it stands for Himalayan Imports....

I can see you no longer as bloody useless. Now I'm all alone in the useless category.:( I gotta take some pictures of my Trisuli and have you see what it says too.

Great stuff.
