First off I would like to say what an enormous wealth of knowledge this site contains, and thanks to all that contribute ;0) this site helped me on the fast track to making my first knives a success!

Its funny how things get started, in January of this year I was out hunting bunnies with my youngest son and I found a spike horn left side drop, and thought to myself that would make a nice knife handle, when I got home I started looking for a blank blade, and it was all down hill from there, propane tank forge, self built 2x72 grinder, junk yard anvil, a few other odds and ends and I am hooked ;0)

The first two knives are from old files and the 2nd two are from a leaf spring (74 Chevy motor-home) oil quenched and tempered with a torch, the files I had to draw to a powder blue before they stopped chipping on brass, and the spring knives seem just fine pulled to a light straw

feel free to post observations...good or bad ;0)

Hahahaha!!! That's what happened to me after I caught the bug. Less than 2 years later I have a blown forge, 3 anvils, hammers, tongs, drill presses, a 2"x72", 2- 9" disc sanders, tons of material and am shopping for a mill, surface grinder and a lathe.....

There's no going back now! Welcome home!

lonepine ...... ya the picture thing with paid membership was a little unclear so i just put them on photobucket ....no biggie

Brian Ayres ...... I went straight to the blown forge as well and was easily able to forge-weld on my 2nd try,(lucky me ;0) ) after i wade through the friends that want knives, I am going to try a piece of Damascus for a personal knife

Nice looking stuff! St. Johns area? I am sure there will be a few hammer in's in MI this year, hopefully you will be able to make it out to one :)Looks like you are off to a good start :)
