So I traded my strider sng dgg for what appeared to be in good shape. Lockup was solid, very big and beefy, only a few scratches... Upon looking at the knife more carefully, I noticed that one of the primary grinds was significally higher than the other, and that the swedge also met up with the primary bevels at different locations on both sides.

I emailed sue at Grayman, and she told me sorry, but if you didn't like it, sell it...

I decided to use it at work for a week, after which the knife developed lock rock. I mean come on... The knife is touted as a beast and a tank, and it couldn't handle cutting back blackberry, ferns, and some plastic plant guards for a week! I'm extremely disappointed. Sue said to send it in, but it could cost me anywhere from just shipping, to 100 bucks to fix it. I had heard all excellent things about grayman, and wanted to love them, and I do love the feel of the knife in hand, the blade shape, etc... But the quality is just severely lacking.

What's up Grayman? What happened?!

Thanks for your honest experience. Almost boarders on being a gb&u thread.

From what I understand about Grayman, they state that their knives are rough and are designed for hard use (as you pointed out). I've heard others, that had them in hand, say that they have questionable f&f, and that the bevels are rough and obtuse. Those things alone are enough to keep me away.

There are too many good knives with great f&f to have to deal with fixing it out of the box.

I've never heard anything about their CS, or problems with lock rock. Bummer that it happened to you. :(

I've heard lots of great things about their cs, and knew going in that the fit and finish wasn't going to be stellar... That being said, lock rock after a week of use makes me queasy and regretful... However, the knife still has amazing ergos, and is borderline sebenza smooth... No sticky lock either... I'll be sending it off to grayman to get it fixed, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it after or not... Maybe I should get a trouble blades mofo instead?

FWIW i bought a brand new Grayman DUA, and used it as my only EDC for quite a while. Out of the box the f&f was a little less than completely perfect, and the grind was a bit on the rough side, but that was expected from my research. I had none of the unfortunate issues you experienced, it is still rock solid after several months. It takes a really great edge. And i have used it borderline rough (as a knife, not a pry bar or screwdriver) and found it to be an extremely tough knife. In my experience it has lived up to the advertising. Maybe yours is a lemon?

I have also found Grayman CS to be fast and courteous. Stinks that your experience hasn't been the same. I am on the waiting list for another at the moment, looking forward to receiving it.

I hope they take care of it for you, they have been great to deal with imo. The DUA is one of my favorite users.

I only wish they would make something between the DUA and the Satu, a 3.5 inch would be just about perfect for me

I would recommend you send it in, explain the issue clearly to Sue, and let her take care of you. If they find out the issues with the knife were because of poor craftsmanship, they will fix it for you. If not, she will explain why the knife was abused and the amount you'll have to pay for fixing it. Once you are there, please update this thread with your experience -- then it would also be appropriate for a thread.

I have had numerous exchanges with her, when I sent my Dua for a tune-up, and they have been very positive and stellar.

Awesome, great to hear! I just received my most recent Dua from them and am falling hard for this knife. Glad they are taking care if you. Please let us know your impressions after Grayman has serviced your knife. My new favorite:

Yay I'm happy to hear they're fixing it for free. Awesome cs. +1 on editing the title :) I can't wait to try a satu. I've been very pleased with the 3 duas I've acquired.

Hey guys, update. Grayman replaced some parts on my satu, but still weren't happy with the lockup, so they are giving me the choice of a new cf, green or black g10 satu. Excellent cs!!

Sue is a sweetheart. Its just the two of them running the show and they do a superb job.

I have a Satu The Preacher and I are customizing soon. We are putting canvas macarta grips with an Anso grind for a worn look. Then we are going to do an Acid Bathe with a heavy stonewash and finally a hairslicing sharpening. We are also customizing a DLC DUA....pictures to follow.

Glad it worked out for you. Nothing is perfect in life but how a business responds to your concerns defines how good they are. One reason why I never will sell my Dua.

I've never owned a Dua.....I have, however, owned three Satus and they are just awesome!! Very large for sure, but I used in taking out my 40,000 gallon pool last year and it was bomb-proof.....I've also spoken to Sue a couple of times and found her to be absolutely wonderful!! Buy from them.....they will take care of you for sure!
