It crossed my mind to do my first run in something like A2 across the board, just to get my designs out there and to get some feedback. That would keep the cost waaay down ($6 a pound vs. $25-30 a pound) for an initial offering and still get really good knives into people's hands. Ultimately I'll be able to get more feedback from more people on possible improvements for a larger follow up run. $140-50 is a lot easier to swallow on a well made A2 blade than $250 for an exotic steel blade from a new company that nobody has heard of yet. Let people abuse the crap out of my models in A2, get some reviews, do fine tuning on the designs if need be. I don't know, it's just a thought.

That really is a good idea to get them out there I think. :)

Then offer Steel upgrades as an option like a lot of the other Custom guys do, gotta start someplace.

This is still extremely helpful though. I like to know what the kids are into these days. CPM 3V is definitely going to be a production standard for my line up. Once I feel like people won't be afraid to spend about $200-250 for one of my knives. It helps to see what types of steels people are becoming interested in and leaning towards. My A2 GSO series will still kick some ass in the mean time. I might have to consider a few give aways on here in exchange for a review.

With handle slabs made from a rare, near extinct animal.

Only near extinct? I want mine made out of the teeth of a megalodon shark.

Make the grinds even and make the handle scales even. There is nothing I hate more than having to send an expensive knife back because the grinds were lop sided or the handles looked like they were made by a monkey, off set and asymmetrical.

Oh yea and make it sharp. I once got a custom knife that came duller than a butter knife. The scales were not the same size, which was evident if you looked at the knife. I took the scales off, sanded them down, and reattached them. Once sharpened, it stays sharp for a loooooooooooooong time. The only saving grace was that his heat treat was impeccable. Because of that, he shall remain nameless.

in my opinion thats a good idea and your right on the price too. if i see a new maker come about and i like his design i'll wait a bit and see how it goes if its a 200 or above knife. but for 140-150 i would be more tempted to buy it and try it for myself. i am by far not a rich person but i like to help out new makers when i can. and i checked out your website and i do like your designs!

Near extinct gives you the chance to kill the last of the species with your new knife. Seriously though people, keep it up with the poll. I am curious to see where the numbers end up when everyone has had their say. Your opinions really do count with me.

A2 is good steel, that's what Jerry Busse used when he got started and a lot of others over time.

Only have to make sure the options are there for those who want them and I think you will be fine.

Check my revised reply up top about grinds and handles. I think past a certain price, these things should be mandatory. I think I'll pick up a 5 one day, either in Elmax or A2.

I myself love having options so I'll certainly have to offer them.

I'm glad you like the designs. I spent MANY hours on them, getting them just right. With any luck they'll be just right for more people than just me. lol. Thanks for dropping by my site. I hope it wasn't too hard to navigate. I built the entire site myself.

The handle slabs will be precision cnc machined, with final fitment done by hand. The blade blanks are being waterjet cut. We won't have any alignment problems. The blade blanks are going for heat treatment before any grinding to get a more uniform heat treat. The cutting edges will be ground to about 18 degrees and will come plenty sharp. All knives will come complete with a molle compatible kydex sheath. First and foremost, I want people to really feel like they got something great for their money and continue feeling that way every time they use one of my knives.

Perhaps Colbat N690 is too expensive, whats about 4116 Krupp Sir?
I am so sorry, I thought you were being funny and saying Cobalt as in the element. Nothing is out of the question yet regarding steels. The steels that turn out to be what the majority of people want will be my likely candidates. I appreciate the input. I am very curious about preferences. Sorry for the misunderstanding. ;)

All I know is I don't have very much money, and A2 would be nice considering I want the knife! haha I would like to see choiless options.
Like the GSO-5 without a choil? That is something I could probably do in the future. The other two models I just added the .25" radius between the handle and blade to make sharpening the blade easier. I will also be offering models of the GSO-5 and 6 without the breaker pommel on the back.

Yes! I want the 5 without a choil! Actually cant decide between the 5 and 6. haha Great looking designs.

wouldn't m390 be a step up from elmax?

I would def spend more for a knife with better steels. you get what u pay for. look at how crazy people on this forum go when they see a spyderco with s90v. make something with s110v they will prob give u their first born
