First proper american slippie: GEC Northfield UN-X-LD Sunfish

Those are some amazing pics of a great knife! I love mine and there is no missing it in your pocket. You'll know its not there when you stop leaning to that side! Congrats and thanks for sharing.

That's not a knife... (in my best paul hogan voice)
That this is a beast. A pattern that has intrigued me for some time now.

I like it. You have my thumbs up.

Wonderful first choice for an American slippie. Though you are in a country with a rich and wonderful history of knives, I too am a "Knife Explorer" and love to own knives from countries other than my own.

BTW - GEC brand(s) are the only new pocket knives that I collect. :D Perhaps you too may soon have more than one.... ;)

I would love a Sunfish! I keep seeing them and keep wanting them

But, in order not to own thousands of knives, I have a rule: If it can't core an apple, I am not getting one :D

Good to hear of another Sunfish fan out there - not too many around. It is one of those patterns you really do not hear much about or hear people talk much about.

I love the pattern and I carry and use it usually in conjunction with a GEC barlow. I have a knife nearly like the one in the OP except in stag. Gotta love GEC Northfields in stag. It is a beast of a knife compared to most slipjoints but in reality it is not much bigger in size than a lot of modern folders (brass, steel, and stag do not lend themselves to weighing about the same though).

Word on the street is that GEC is getting ready to release another Sunfish model in the very near future with a few changes to the design. I wish they would make the smaller blade a sheepsfoot or similar design. That would be a perfect combo with the bigger spear point blade in my opinion.

Edit: Forgot to add that mine has that same gap as described in the OP. No really sure what it does but it seems all of them have it so it must be there for a reason. As far as fit and finish goes, mine is on par with what I would expect from a custom knife if I were to buy one. It is simply aswesome, or I should say it was awesome as mine is a user and the nice mirror finish it originally came with is fairly scratched up now.

That is exactly what I was talking about and would love to see. Except without a custom knife price tag:D

Well, I actually got that one in our exchange forum for not too much more than a high end production knife. Sometimes you get lucky.:thumbup:

I like that sheepsfoot varioation!
The GEC has kind of - almost tanto-styled blade if you will - that also work in similiar fashion. It's quite strong in some designs.

I like the few custom toes I have seen with only one blade. They just felt great. The little one ruins the "meaty" heft the pattern brings to the table.
Has anyone heard of a production ET with only one blade?

I actually thought of this myself. If you really want to grab the knife, the small blade pops out and prevents good meaty grip (but then in other hand, I rarely need that kind of strong grip for folder).

I really like that knife A.L. Thanks for showing it.

Now that the Oz dollar has reached parity with the US dollar it makes knife buying a little easier :)

I think I might go looking for one of those.
