i recently bought a custome benchmade griptilian and now my taste has done a 180 and im looking for a peice of art as apposed to a utility knife. im looking for a jaw dropper in the $100-$200 range i like the spyderco sprint run damascus its a little over my price range but i think it could be worth it if i dont find anything else. if anyone has any suggestions im open to them

You could get a nice slipjoint in that price range. look at GEC, Case, Schatt&Morgan or Queen. If traditional isn't your thing Boker makes gents stuff at a reasonable price. The spyderco kiwi is kinda cool...

Have you checked out Mcusta? Most of their offerings are under $200. I carry a Spyderco Chaparral when I need a gentleman's and it works well.

+1 on the Mcusta offerings. In that price range, they will be hard to beat. The Case/Bose offerings this year, in ebony are pretty gorgeous too. The Panama Trapper, or back pocket would both make fine "gentleman's folders."

I got a brand new Spyderco Delica 4 Titanium Damascus a week ago for that price range.

As others have mentioned the Mcusta knives are very nice too.

A nice slipjoint can be bought for $200, especially lightly used off the exchange here. If not, then I say go for the caly 3 Damascus:thumbup:

Try to get your hands on a William Henry E6. It's going to be a touch over $200 but worth it.

Also look into the Benchmade Shoki,Shori,Megumi etc etc etc

Honestly though if you are looking for a true jaw dropping art piece, you need to add a zero onto the end of your price range.

I might be running against the current here (being an old fart and everything), but the phrase 'gentlemans' folder' to me means no one hand opening, no locking mechanism- and it does severely limit one's choices... Might be a traditional design, or not.

OH man... take a look at the Northwoods Norfolk at www.knivesShipFree.com. I bought one a couple of weeks back and it is one of the most impressive pocket knives I've ever purchased. It's made by Great Eastern and just exudes quality.

I don't know what a "gentleman's" knife is anymore. Things change...
It can be anything from a Chaparral to a McHenry and Williams to a traditional...it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Yup..

Here are a pair of Benchmades in the 'Gents style', top - a 482 Megumi in S30V and cocobolo and CF scales and a 480-1 Shoki in m390 and CF scales. Both are pb-operated liner locks - aka 'Nak-Lok'. The Shoki is obsolete now - but may still be around - a search may be required. The Me-Gumby is still available. Either should be <$200 shipped.

Both are keepers!

I would say plus one on the Shoki and Megumi by Benchmade, but from what your describing I think a really nice Mcusta knife is the way to go because for your price range you can get a good looking handle and a damascus blade. All of which is made in Seki city Japan which is you have to get an overseas knife then this is a good place to get one from. Mcusta has quality products.

This is what I think of when I read jaw dropping gentlemans folder:

blklip.jpg

The blade is made of a "W" pattern twist at 3" long. Bolsters are "W" ladder pattern with solid 14K gold screws and 24 K gold inlay. Handle scales are rainbow black lip mother of pearl with solid 14 K gold screws. The blade spine and spacer are also inlayed with 24K gold. the liners are anodized Titanium with vine file work.

Dang, Scurvy, that is a knife any bad guy would be honored to be cut by :)
