first "real" knife purchase

When I bought my Skyline (my first 'real' knife), I also grabbed one for my brother. He uses the crap out if it. I've watched him break down a pallet of boxes, cut zip-ties, tighten screws, open bottles, etc., with it. The edge has yet to be touched up and it still zips through boxes with zero play. It's a great value-folder from my experience.

Warning!!! If you buy the Spyderco you will become ADDICTED!

Seriously, the Spyderco Chaparral is the more sophisticated looking knife and is a better slicer. It is not a hard use knife as the blade is thin and the pin small. It is a gentleman's EDC knife and there is none better. If you take the clip off it is so thin it will disappear in your pocket. The newer Chaparrals have CTS-XHP steel. It is a knife you will be proud to own. http://www.knifeworks.com/spydercochapparalcpm-s30vsteelcarbonfiberhandleplainedge.aspx#.VFpCdzSUcb4

I am not knocking Kershaw as I own a bunch of them. I am just responding to your choices.

Yeah, rereading your OP, if this is really your first knife purchase, or first 'considered/researched' knife purchase, shall we say, as opposed to picking up whatever they had at WallyMart, I think you are way overshooting your mark at this point (unless you are filthy rich, like Jim Skelton seems to me to be from his knife videos on YouTube, but that is a reference you probably won't get, more a desire on my part to express the fact the I have to hand it to a guy who actually USES his RARE EXPENSIVE CUSTOM knives! Anyway...) There are A LOT of GREAT edc knife options out there that look good and have good steel for a lot less money, and you could try some different options before committing to something more expensive...

(ALTHOUGH: I must warn you that there IS one MAJOR advantage to buying ONLY one knife... YOU WILL AVOID THE KNIFE COLLECTING ADDICTION! But that ASSUMES that you ONLY buy ONE knife!)

AND PLEASE! Don't let that fact that we may be opinionated or are offering suggestions other than you were looking for STOP YOU FROM RESPONDING! If we are going off course, put us back on track! We won't bite (at least most of us...) ;)
