First REAL knife

The MSP website seems to indicate blades longer than three inches are not prohibited unless the user intends to do harm to someone with it. It looks like a tack-on charge to me unless the officer can otherwise establish probable cause that the person doing the carrying was intent on using it in a crime.

True, you CAN carry a longer knife, but then you're subject to the officer's thoughts on your intent. With a law like this in place, why not go with less then 3 inch and avoid having to justify your tool? Seems like one more way to make life easier, and most regular work tasks don't require any longer a blade(some do, but not any I've had to do for work).

Spyderco Salt. The FRN is not a plastic that gets brittle in cold
The hole works well for gloves, its yellow. Fully serrated works for quick and dirty tasks.

I open lots of paper boxes where I work and they furnish box cutters. I won't touch one of them with a 10 foot pole. They are just made trashy and I don't like using them. I carry a Benchmade Skirmish. Sharpen it every couple of weeks. It is fun to use and I can open and close it with one hand. I am lucky that in Texas the blade only has to be no longer than 5 1/2 inches. I use a sharp maker and although the knife has been sharpened many times you can't see any wear on the blade.

If you are buying your own I'd recommend a 'Superknife', see Superknives.com for the range. You can get a rubberised handle that would be easy to use with gloves, they come with pocket/belt clips and actually fold.
Then with the money you save you can buy yourself a nice pocket knife that you won't have to trash.

Spyderco Yojimbo - its a boxcutter on roids. For stripping plastic wrap, slicing open boxes, cutting through strapping, delicate cuts where a sharp pointy tip are imperitive - I have found the Yojimbo is the perfect knife. I think the blade is around the 3" mark. Large spydie hole makes it easy to open with gloves, which you probably would be wearing in freezer rooms.

I hate to do this, but if your looking for something to cut wrapping off of boxes and pallets...get a box cutter.
