Hey guys, thought I'd show yall a small recurve bowie (my First) I roughed out this evening for my son. He's 10 and will be deer hunting with me starting next year. :D So I thought what better way to commererate that, then with a custom hunting knife, by and from his his old man. :) I still need to polish it up and remove the file marks, Harden and Temper yet. But I thought I'd share my joy since it came out so well for a first.

Blade started life as 1-1/2 x 1/8 O1
O.A.L. is 9"
Blade Length is 4-5/8
Handle is 4-3/8

Whatchyuns think?

Looks great! , but you should clean up the bottom front of the handle. Clean line...smooth transition. Whats the steel?

I agree. Good start! I would just turn that little double peak at the bottom front of the handle into one smooth finger groove. Makes for smoother flowing lines and also decreases chances of cracking during your heat treat.

And here I thought I was the only one with trouble keeping file marks off my flats. :) Good job.

Thanks for the advice guys that's why I posted here! I appreciate ya'lls guidance on it. I'll definatly clean up the lines a bit around the handle. It started life as O1 Mace. Blue Dragon I cant ever keep the files marks off the flats.

Thanx Again

Remember, sharp angles are bad news for heat treatments. They create stress risers which could (and often do) crack your blade. Areas to watch for are any sharp angular features (as mentioned above) and also, look at the plunge. Is it completey square from filing? If so, you will want to take a small round file or a small piece of pin rod with sand paper wrapped around it and turn it into a radius.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. Pictures of course!
