I finally got a straight blank from my kiln this week, long story, and yes the pic 100% sucks. I just wanted to get something together to have something to show for my work. Lots of firsts. First time using O-1 (plate quenched 3/32 stock), first time grinding bevels after HT, first time using speedbonder 324 to attach the scales, first time using hot apple cider for the forced patina. I left the maker's mark subdued on purpose.
I double checked the flatness and fit of the scales dry, and I could not get a tight fit after everything was wet with glue. I have gaps along the spine. I let the edge get too hot and I have a spot maybe 1/8" across the edge where it turned blue. That's what I get for using old belts... The spot is close to the choil so whatever. It'll still cut meat. I need to work on degreasing better when doing stuff like the patina or etching.
Oh, and that speedbonder activator smells downright awful. Not so much like acetone or MEK, more sour. actually made me a hair sick to my stomach. Not something to use when he garage door is down.
