First Spyderco. Now I'm hooked

I bought my first Spyderco, a para 3 Digi camo sv45n 2 weeks ago, and now I'm hooked. It's my every day carry. I'm absolutely floored how sharp it's staying. Not to badmouth Benchmade, but i have to sharpen sv30 every 2 weeks, and the sv45n is still sharp enough to shave hair. Just traded for a mantix cutlery shoppe sv90 dlc. I'd love to have the cutlery shoppe shaman. Curious but how does everyone find out so quick when their new knives released? How does their other steels compare to s45vn? If there is something better than s45vn, i gotta get one! Thanks

Hi, to stay in the loop I subscribed to Ramzars thread here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...ivered-upcoming.1767874/page-28#post-20670741
I am also frequenting the forum hosted on spyderco.com. There are also 'Reveals' posted usually in January, May and September in the form of a PDF.

Check out this to get up to speed with different steels: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/i-tested-the-edge-retention-of-48-steels.1726279/

I have a lot of steels from Spyderco: Maxamet, Rex45, S110V, S90V, XHP, M4, S35VN, S30V, LC200N, H1. "All good, just different."
Depending what and where you want to use your knife for, there is a steel for everything.
Sounds like you prefer good edge retention, so I would suggest Maxamet, S110V, S90V, M4 and K390, all available in regular production.
Often, good heat treat and blade geometry is more important than the steel itself.

Para 3 in S45VN is a great spydie. I’m sure there will be many more in your future! Spyderco is my most trusted brand, and part of that is the superb job they do with their steels. As mentioned above, Ramzar’s thread is a great source for upcoming drops. Best of luck getting the knives you want!

Welcome, Deere. Congrats on the Para 3. We have a lot of knife knowledgeable, steel knowledgeable people on this forum who will answer any questions you may have, but I hope that you will tell us about sv45n, how it's holding up and how you are liking it.

¡Saludos! :)

I agree with jng1234 about Delicas and Dragonflys. I have 8 different versions of the Delica and the Dragonfly is the greatest EDC for my day to day uses. Also, welcome to the most addictive hobby ever

Probably handles, steels, or model (Delica 1, 2, 3, 4)

Right. I was curious about the steels. Right now, the Delica 4 can only be had in VG-10, K390 and M390 (bentobox), as far as I know. I was wondering if he had the Delica in any other steels.

Welcome to the club! I adore spyderco, and the Shaman is my favorite (I own 4!). Also love the Amalgam, Kapara, Gayle Bradley 2, Manix 2 xl, endura, endela, stretch 2...you see where I'm going with this... Lol

I also love me some Benchmade. Have plenty, all are great, no complaints! But I just love me some Shaman!

Once you've got one: it's tough to stop...
Congratulations!

I just "took another spyder-bite"...
I've got a Manix coming that is loaded with S110V steel.
What hooked me, was the ball-bearing lock. It works like Benchmade's Axis-lock; but seems to be a much simpler design...

Which Spyderco models offer the ball-bearing lock?
I was kind of under the impression that it was just a Manix thing...

- The Manix XL and P'Kal are in current production.
- The Q-Ball (nephron's knife pictured above) was discontinued last year.
- The Poliwog was discontinued in 2010.
- The Phoenix was discontinued in 2010 but there was a sprint earlier this year.
- The Dodo was discontinued in 2012 but there was a BHQ exclusive in 2019.

I think that's all of the BBL models, but I could be forgetting something.

I think there was a Sage too.
