First Spyderco suggestion

I have a sweatshirt from Benchmade, after military discount, it's one of the most comfortable sweatshirts I own and a fair price. If it didn't have Benchmade on it, it might have Bananna Replublic, tomato, toomato.

Anyways, what is the short clip for the p3 your referencing?

Also, not sure who ground the shaman, I should get a discount for having to even that bevel out. You can see (even though it's blurry) here where it's thick towards the tip, thin and then thick again towards the heel.

MXG Gear short clip seems to be the P3 go to clip from what I’ve seen. I bought the plain titanium kind for my CF P3. Looks good against the black CF. Would like all satin titanium screws , pins and pivots on my P3 if you’re available. Snazzy looking I think

I wish there was more of a description, length specifically. I personally like the two screws on the side versus three in the loop.

Yea , screw heads can catch and tear up pants. Wear a pair of Tom Fords and a clip catches and ruins your pocket. Fine pants aren’t worth it to risk using pocket clips. It sucks learning the hard way when your pants are worth over 5 times the cost of the knife. You would rather lose the knife than have your pants ruined. Jeans and khaki’s ok. Not dress stuff.

The two knives that get the most carry time for me are the PM2 and the Manix2 LW. Great all around knives.

Just looked at the original post again. I have a new recommendation for you: the SpydieChef.

It doesn't have a compression lock but does have a great Reeve Integral Lock mechanism and smooth action. Mine's very flickable/fidget-friendly. If you need a compression lock, this won't do, but the SpydieChef seems to meet your other criteria. The steel isn't what you specified, but LC200N is very similar in edge retention and sharpening to S35VN or CTS-XHP, but it's practically rustproof.

I'm not sure what to call the blade shape, but since you mentioned a sheepsfoot, you may like it. It's a very useful shape for EDC tasks. I can't recommend a Spyderco knife more highly. The blade is longer than the PM2's, but the titanium handle is thinner and much more pocketable, with a deep carry wire clip. Plus it's one of the best slicers ever, very thin behind the edge.

Here it is next to a PM2:

Talked with mxgear, I've got two short clips coming, so I'll probably sell the longer clips, they didn't offer a return but I usually don't ask, I sell for a pretty good discount here on the forums and chalk it up as a learning experience.

In regards to Sage 5, PM2, PM3 and Shaman. My first impression of the Sage 5 is an unfinished version of the PM3 if that makes sense. If you could mix the PM3 and the Sage 5, you'd have a perfect knife minus there's no sharpening choil. The sage feels rough, unfinished. The spidy hole has sharp edges. No detent ramp like the PM2, PM3 and Shaman, so the blade has a has stop closing, you can't one hand close when it's new, not sure about down the line. I like the wire clip but if you don't, it's cut where it's pretty much your option. The Sage 5 has the smaller lanyard hole which is a plus. No giant hoop like the PM2 or PM3. Was thinking this analogy today. I've been around the tattoo'd community for a long time, not so much any more. I've had friends stretch they're nose with giant hoops. You can see in they're nose... The lanyard loop on the PM2 and PM3 reminds me of that. Just out of place...

You've set your sights on some great options. It's hard to go wrong with any of them. Just pick the knife that speaks to you the most and go from there. If you can handle it in advance that's a plus, but that's not an option for many of us.

My suggestion is the Shaman or the Manix 2.

I'm letting the Sage 5 and the Shaman go. Picked up Manix 2 and lil native seconds over the weekend for 80 bucks. Picked up and keeping PM3 and PM2.

I have same problem on an old mini grip on the belly and nearest to handle. It's so bad I just left it when sharpening since knife has workable edge. It just looks terrible though. Once I get some diamond stones I might go through and fix it.

It's funny cause Spyderco uses robots to sharpen, not sure which knives but I see the same issues with them as I do with Benchmade, Hinderer and Chris Reeves. (you would think the precision of the robot wouldn't see those issues...). Then the traditional ledge close to the handle of the Spyderco, it's hard to sharpen and not scuff that up. Of course no sharpening choil, not even a very small one but if you look close with a jeweler's loop, you'll see an un-sharpened area close to the heel. Wouldn't it have been easier to add a small choil? I've had a really bad one from Chris Reeve. Benchmade 940 is another one as the bevel meets the handle, there's a concave spot that if you want the heel of the blade sharpened, your going to have to grind that concave area close to the handle.
