Hey all. I have been buying, collecing knives for a few years now... I own a lot of benchmade, CRKT, Kershaw, Cold Steel, and many others. Sadly I still don't own any spyderco yet:/ I know, I know... honestly they have never really appealed to me asthetically. From all the forums I have read (big reader, not a big poster) it sounds like I will end up loving 'em. I just dont really know what to get. I like straight blades, not serrated and would like it to be affordable. Input would be great! Thanks!
My EDC right now is a Kershaw/Ken Onion Cyclone if thats any help to ya...

The Delica or the Endura would be a great start, or go big and get a Manix or a military or a Caly 3. but just remember what ever you get now, you will just end up getting the others soon enough:D

The Delica, Endura, Native, Native III, and the entire Salt series are available in plain edge and any one of them would be an excellent, inexpensive, first Spyderco. For a few dollars more you might want to consider the ZDP-189 version of the Delica, Endura, or Calypso Jr.

I recommend a Waved Endura :D
I probably mentioned this before.....but the Waved E4 is an epic knife.

Deacon -
NO!
Stop!!
Don't do it!!!
I, too, had experienced BM's.
I had, and still have, a Sebbie.
But - BAM!! - out of nowhere that Spydie thing snuck up and consumed me.
Having an inquisitive nature, I started with the mini-manix 3 months ago.
No biggie (I told myself) its just another knife...
Then, while I was simply not paying attention to details, a D'Allara dropped in.
I still can't explain the Caly3 ZDP, nor Herr Stretch.
All I can tell you is..., don't do it!!!
As a favor to you, I am willing to suffer in the misery of Sydie obsession-compulsive disorder in solitude.
You are welcome,
Barry

Before getting my 1st Spyderco, I had handled FRN handled models, and was not really impressed.

THen I traded into one of the original Chinooks. Wow. Those are what real knives are supposed to feel like.

Go for one of the big G10 scaled models--Chinook, Manix, Mini Manix, or even the Captain.

My first was a Delica Wave. I love it. Spydies are addicting though:D

I EDC the Delica Wave and a Tasman Salt SE

I dont think you can go wrong with any Spydie.

Good Luck

If you want to wade into the shallow-end first, try one of the Spyerco Byrd series, such as the Robin. Inexpensive and same quality as the "regular" Spydercos. I have both and can't tell the difference.

The Byrds are made in China (instead of Colorado or Japan) but still to Spyderco's top-notch specifications. Outstanding value for a Spyderco.

I say go for the heart of the line of spyderco. I say start with either a delica 4 wave or an endura 4 wave. The wave feature is just a fun thing and very useful. The endura/delica are their heart of the line models!

If you want something similar to your Cyclone (3.75” leaf shape blade) I would suggest R2 or Manix/Mini Manix. They are more expensive than Cyclone, but blade will have much better edge retention. Out of these knives I EDC only R2 and I would highly recommend it. R2 was a sprint run couple years ago (600 PE and 600SE), but still possible to find at some dealers, I saw PE at Sooner State, also e-bay. It is around $80.
You will never regret if you will get Caly3, but it is smaller. Blade is 3”, but it is terrific knife: beauty queen and work horse at the same time.

Thanks Guys! Great info... Going down this afternoon to possibly make my first spydie purchase! Im excited! Keep posting. More info alwasy welcome! Thanks! ;) :p

Can't get wrong with an Endura, Military or Police. :D
