I just received my Waved Spyderco Delica 4 in the mail today.
It's my first spyderco.
When I first really got into knives a few years ago, I always thought Spyderco's were ugly. The Round Hole, aesthetics wise, always turned me off.
When I discovered these forums, I started to realize what Spyderco's were all about, and I've developed a taste for them.
I decided to try the Delica as my first Spydie, due to the constant recommendations given to "noobs" asking for a good first knife.
I also wanted to try out the wave feature.
My first impressions were that the knife is just a little small for my hands. However, I have HUGE hands, being 6'6" tall. I can however, still manage to get what you might call a 3 and a half finger grip. It feels very solid when I grip it, but sometimes orienting it can be tricky due to the size of my hands and the thinness of the knife.
Overall, I love this little guy, and I will definitely be getting more spydies in the future.
Here are a few pics of my new toy
This next pic is showing the only real problem I have with this knife. It's a small rough blemish kinda engulfed within the "Spyderco VG-10" stamp in the tang. It almost appears to be sticky residue left over after someone removed a price tag, but upon closer inspection and after scratching at it with a pin, it is simply a deformation in the steel.
Now, is this blemish really a big deal? Not really. I don't mind it at all. Unless you're inspecting the knife (which is of course what i did as soon as I got it) you won't notice it at all.
And besides, I bought this knife to be a user, and I plan on using this knife HARD.
And here is a close up:
To cap it all off, this knife is great, and I love it. I can't say I'm too big on the Wave feature though. It's handy, but to be honest I think the Delica looks so much more classic without it. I think next time when I buy an Endura, I'll get it without the wave.
Regards,
Eric
