Don't see how it is an unfair criticism. You pretty much repeated everything I said only with topspin. That seems an unfair criticism. It's a tribute/Spyderco version of a Pattada, not meant to be a 1:1 production. It's also a well liked model. But alas, no accounting for different tastes!
To each his own. Which I also said.
As far as tributes, Some tributes don't need to be made. There is a reason we don't see Victorinox making a tribute version of a Fairebairn-Sykes fighting knife. The knife is not improved by adding a fork, spoon and corkscrew. Similarly, the Spyderco Pattada does not work for me for a couple of reasons.
1. The look, the knife in no way captures any of the elegance and grace of an actual Pattada.
2. The features. The traditional Pattada does not have a pocket clip, liner lock, G10 scales, or even stainless steel. (traditionally they are damascus style blades)
3. This is really the main issue I think - the Name. Calling it a Pattada is essentially an insult to true Pattada knives. It is not even close. Want to do a tribute to a Pattada and make a knife based on that style? ok, that's fine. IMO, calling it "the Sardinian" would be far more accurate and far less objectionable and mis-representative of what true Pattada knives are about. Like I said in an earlier post, it is a decent enough knife, and in fact better looking than a lot of other spyderco folding knives. Just not a decent version of a Pattada.
Putting it another way, what would you think of a "tribute" Loveless drop point knife, made with 420 steel, hammered finish, cork handle, level tang, and aged brass bolster and hilt?
