Hello guys,

I am just about to order in my first steel, and i could use some advice on what to get.
If you take a look at http://brisa.fi, under the steel section, there is multiple choices, and i really don't know which one to get.
And i was also wondering what is the most used size for the pins?

Thanks,
Kim.

It's hard to recommend a steel without knowing what you plan to make, and what you have for heat treat capabilities or if you'll send it out for heat treat.

Pin sizes vary with the size and aesthetic of the knife. 3mm, 4.5mm and 6mm are pretty common.

To be honest i don't really know what i'm going to be making at first. I was just planning on ordering from that specific site, as it has a decent price on international shipping, but i have no clue what the different steels are for. As far as heat treat go, i have gotten myself some stove fire bricks and a gas torch that i was planning on using.

From what they sell, I would say the 15n20 would be the easiest to heat treat yourself. For pins, 3mm for smaller knives to 6mm for larger knives, but that depends on the look u going for.

I second the 15n20 if that's the only source you have. There aren't really any easy beginner steels on that list like a 1084.

You should try to find 1084. Otherwise I agree, from that site 15n20.
