I went and visited Bill Burke near Idaho city again and I got the great opportunity to forge my first blade. I have to tell you. forging is a hell of alot more fun than stock removal. Bill made a blade as well and I got to experience
how a master bladesmith does it right. Which helped tremendously. He gave me great instruction and a whole hell of alot of information about forging. All i have to say is I AM HOOKED!!!..Now I have to tell my wife about how I can afford to build my own forge.....S**t! I just know shes gonna cross ger arms and give me that look.. oh well..

Here are some pics of my blade.. Now I just have to figure out how to put a handle on it..Never done a hidden tang..Time to jump in head first.

the blade is a fighter style made out of I think is 52100 But I was soo excited about the chance to forge that I forgot what Bill said about the steel.

6 in blade
11 in total with tang
.225 in thick.

I havent finished the grinding yet. I am actually going to try to finish this knife with files. My crappy 2x42 grinder and I arent getting along right now and I put him in a dark place to think about what he's done.

sooo... with out further adue... heres the blade... hopefully the first of many forged blades.

Very nice ... What an experience, sounds like a great day. You will need to post the finished product.

Great knife! I like it cause it's STABBY!!!! :D

Getting to study even for a day with a great teacher like Mr. Burke is an honor. You're very lucky, now just try to remember what he's taught you and put it to use. ;)

I am honored.. And trying my hardest to soak all that info in..There was alot there but I think I did ok for my first time.. But I am not going to say anymore on that until I do a second.. maby it was beginners luck.

I cant wait to go back.:)

Hey, watch those technical terms, we're not all knifemakers on this forum you know! ;) :D

Love the blade shape. Not just stabby, but lots of curvy belly too.

This is my first attempt at a stabby knife as well as a hidden tang..I am starting to like stabby knives as well.:)

Here is an update.!!!!!! I cleaned the scale off the other side of the blade and went to town with a 16" bastard file and some sand paper and here is what I got.. I have to say this was a lot easier than using my very disobediant 2x42 craftsman. It was actually soo good I went and fixed acouple more blades that i had deemed tooo bad or I was just plain frustrated with. well heres the progress:

Ready to heat treat. i am going to see if Bill Burke can help me with that.

enjoy...because I know I have.
