First thing you do with brand new Buck?

Honestly, after admiring your new Buck knife, what’s the first thing you did to it?

Oil it, Sharpen it, clean up the factory blade, press the bolsters…. Or nothing, it was perfect!

Anyone found that recent purchases Need some light finishing; cleaning up the grind, etc. I have sadly, but still love the classic folders.

Well I like to play with it for a few days anyway..Most I get don't need to be sharpened and very few need to be cleaned. Basically I look for things that need to be cut.

I stare at it and open it and close it countless times and then I go back to staring at it.

I vacuum seal mine, box and all, and store them in a vault.

Nah, I do the same as you all. Stare at it, put my fingerprints all over it, and then look for something to cut. Cool thread!

Lemon oil for the wood, mink oil for the sheath, moly oil for the pivot(s).

The wife is home when the mail comes.
So she's usually pretty interested in what's on the box.... She can tell the knife boxes right away.

She wants to see it.

Usually cut something or just fondle it for an excessive amount of time.

Check fit and finish. Maybe add a drop of oil. A couple of blades needed a touch up over the years. Then put it to work.

I do a little bit of clean up, then make a photo for posting, of course.

After that, I leave it out on my desk and do the open/close, stare, fondle thing for a while.

Eventually, I will put them in a drawer until ready to use, but my 301, 303 and 110 have been sitting on top for a while now. Every once in a while, I pull out one of the others to repeat some more of that earlier pattern.

Same I do with every knife. Add a minuscule sharpening choil and fix the factory recurve.
