First time buyer, want to do it right.

One word to say about all this........Amen  :D

Why the knock down on SOG. I have quite a few of their knives and I like all of the fixed blades I have. Field pup, Seal pup elite, desert daggert2. I have never actually used the daggert but the field pup and the seal elite have gotten plenty of use and has held up to everything thrown at it. I have full confidence in those blades. Could you give me input as to why you believe they are so you say not so good.

Hello there,

I was standing by what was said, and I still do. Just because I sell SOG and Gerber doesn't mean I would blindly stand behind them and praise the knives if I knew the buyer wouldn't like it. Here on the forums I will say what I believe, and that is that you can get a lot more knife for your dollar by investiing in RAT cutlery and/or other knives of equal cost. Now, SOG's fixed blades are nice, I personally carry a field pup with leather sheath, but that's my choice - inexpensive and durable. Gerber is one of the first companies I would buy from, but the blades never held an edge and always had a dingy feel. Then I found this place and quickly became a steel snob :D

I say buy what makes you happy and I will gladly supply it :p

Take care, J :)

I get it now you are not saying that SOG is junk, you are just saying that there are better knives in the comparible price range. I too agree with that statement, especially if you are talking about RAT Cutlery. I currently own the RC3 and love it. It is my absolute favorite of all my knives. I just purchased a Kabar BK2 and while I like the knife it does have some cosmetic flaws such as the handles not being flush with the tang. I think my next as a matter of fact I know that my next purchase of knives will be a mini ruckus by benchmade for a folder and a RAT Cutlery SERE 5 for a fixed. With the collection I now own I think that this will satisfy as far as having user knives. After these two purchases I think I will be ready to graduate to custom and collector status.
