Kerhsaw Knockout, Kershaw Blackout and Kershaw Piston! Just a few other suggestions.
 
I like the SOG Twitch XL. I also like the SOG Mini-Vulcan. I got both of these before pretty much stopping my SOG purchases due to their copying the Spydie hole.

Can you get a mini Vulcan for under $50? I haven't looked at them in a long time but last I looked they were like $80.
 
Anytime I've gifted an EDC blade to a friend or family member, I always start with a Spyderco Endura or Delica. Haven't went wrong yet. I've even converted a few of 'em to knife nuts, LOL. These two can meet your requirements but are not assisted opening and just a bit above $50. Good luck with your choice!

I believe you're right about the money part on the Mini-Vulcan. It is flipper (gravity knife) also rather than assisted opener but it is very easy and fast to open. The Twitch XL may run over $50 too. I was hoping the PX discount would be substantial.

I agree with the Endura and Delica as very good choices. I have both and like both, but prefer to carry the Delica.

I think I'm gonna get a Kershaw Blur from kershawguy.com, so thanks everyone for your help.

One more quick question, does anyone know where I can get a new non-blem Benchmade 580SBK for less than $99? I see one for that price on "an auction site that starts with E".
