[ FONT=Courier New]Hello members of bladeforums!

I want to make a series of knifes for myself and to give to my friends. I am new to the world of knifes although I have carried a Victorinox in the past.
I plan on making a straight razor style friction folder as I live in the UK and unfortunately most people here see knifes as weapons and not tools.
I am going to use O1 flat stock steel to make my blades as there is lots of information available online about heat treating that particular steel. I unsure as to what thickness of stock I should use, I want a general purpose knife for cutting and slicing, I won't be chopping anything with it as I plan to make small UK legal carry pocket knifes. I was thinking of either using 1.5, 2, 3 or 4 mm thick steel, which do you think would be best suitable for me?

I am also unsure as to what kind of bevel/grind would be easiest to put on my blade, a Chisel or a Scandinavian grind?

I plan to post my progress on here for any interested persons to follow.

Thank you for your advice![/FONT]

First, the plural of knife is knives.

If you want to make a UK legal blade, read up on the UK laws

I think that most friction folders have nothing restricting them from opening, therefore they are classified as ‘gravity knife’
We have the same rule here.

I would not go any thicker than 1/8"
3mm to you.

I would start with a fixed blade first

I don't favor either chisel or scandi grinds.
I like thin full height flat grinds

I took the red out for you.

Use 2 or 3mm stock. Do a Full Flat Grind (FFG).
Make the knives simple and useful.
Leave off all the whistles and bells.
A simple 2.5" blade and 4" handle will work well and meet UK specs, IIRC.
