Ok so here is my first try making a knife. I know there have been a few errors along the way and am curious if I should finish it out or chalk it up to a learning experience and move on.

So I started out with 1/4" 01 steel and wanted to do the work completely with hand tools. I thought it was going well until I messed up the bevel line. I had a friend run off 1/16" overall. It was supposed to be 1/32" from each side to keep the blade edge centered. Well things got confused and so my blade is off center slightly. I can fix it is think but the list of troubles goes on. So back to my original question do I try to finish it out or just start over. All of the work has been files and a hack saw except the grinding a friend did. So it is kind of hard for me to say forget it. Also I like to try to finish whatever I start I just want to know if this is salvageable or no. (Also I know the bevel needs more work/evening from side to side.)

finnish it.
If you file along the edge you'll make it thicker so you can remove some steel again to center the edge.
Draw filing gives a lot of control

Finish it. You'll be glad you did. If nothing else, you can throw it in a drawer and use it as a utility knife. There's nothing like holding your first knife in your hands.

Finish it. I just finished my first knife and there were times I thought I Had messed up enough to toss it. I chose to finish it and am glad I did. I learned a lot going though all the steps.

I'm in the same boat. Not finished yet, too many mistakes to count & lots of time invested in my first blade, but I'm sticking with it. I say finish it, make a list of what needs to be better next time & make another one!

Thanks for the input/encouragement guys. I have done a lot of things in my time none of them perfect but I have never struggled the way I am with this. It is encouraging to hear I am not alone. Now I just need to get myself motivated again to do this.
