First time poster interested in buying a khukuri

Otaru, go to theAuthenticity of my 18" Ang Khola thread for summary of marks.

On the WWII modell... does it actually have "world war two" marked on it in any shape or form? I know it's called that because it's a replica of the original design
No,
and I think it's more "based on" than "replicated".
Usually HI blades are heavier than historical blades.

I think this is one:

And look here:

There's a difference between date of manufacture & style name.
Lots of variation possible, subtle & not so subtle,
in style during a given period.

I think this is an interesting pair of pics,
but not WWII -style- blades necessarily

A 15" khukuri is NOT a small knife. Next to most other knives in the Western world, it's pretty huge!
I just got my first Sher, a 15" AK. It's almost 1/2" thick (.425") and weighs almost 1 1/2 Lbs. This is no small knife in anyone's collection! Many hatchets and trail axes are smaller and lighter than this beast, yet it seems to be considered a "small" khukuri by some of our colleagues. I don't get it. Come on, guys: 'splaine it to me.

That's a good point which I kept finding myself forgetting when trying to decide on which one to buy. But from what other people are saying it does seem to be the case that the handles are smaller the smaller the blade which I thought would be a problem for me. Otherwise I would have grabbed one of the BAS blems. I figured that maybe I could take off and replace the handle (I know some woodworkers) but that seemed kind of beside the point. As to grinding or whatever the sides on the butt down that seemed a bit... well honestly I'm kind of bad at that kind of thing... really bad...

But that aside it is a good thing to keep in mind. The 18" Gelbu Special I ordered (don't have it yet) must be three+ times the size of the Benchmade 550 Griptillian I carry as a pocket knife (as a side note, I rather like this knife but I wish I had the model with the thumb post instead of the thumb hole, the hole is just not right). And the blade on it is probably close to three times longer than the only other big knife I own which is just a run of the mill Ka-bar... I never thought of how big a difference that really is until now...
