First time with Ferrule and Habaki

Rustic, 'sloppy', or whatever you care to call it .... that's one outstanding knife Rick.
If you don't mind my asking; how did you achieve that texture on the blade?

What the fuchi is a fuchi? ;)

Rick, I use to look at the paper shop for all kind of nice looking background and then I realized that most of Coop's pictures have an almost solid background. Since I am pretty sure he is starting to get an idea of what works by now, ;) that's what I'll start using.

How's it look? Hit me where it hurts.

Rick

Well, OK.

It looks good enough for K-Mart!

I guess you haven't sent it out for chrome plating yet, huh?

Is that a fake antler?

I think if you took it up to a 10 or even 20 grit it would look nice.

Why didn't you take the slag off the blade?

Will get to see pictures of it when it's finished?

Did you know you misspelled Hibachi?

OUCH!! Those even hurt ME! And they are all in jest, lest you get the wrong idea.
It seems inadequate to say "It looks very good." so I'll have to say "It looks very,VERY, good!

That's a very cool knife, Rick. I like the texture, the antler handle, the copper, all of it. Only thing I'm wondering is how the hell did you make that little curlique?

That is a stunning piece of work right there.
And at last, somebody finally used the word "ferrule" correctly.
Guys are always calling spacers and collars "ferrules" incorrectly.
Thanks.

I would definitely like to have that in my collection. Sort of a blend between tribal and eastern, with a bit of feminine flair thrown in for kicks. Almost steampunk, but not. Hints of travels through wild lands filled with beautiful women and cold beer.

I like it!

That's a great looking knife Rick! From the curl in the choil to the taper in the antler mimicking the upsweep of the blade... Bang on! The ferrule and habaki..
Nicely done. I might be inclined to make the habaki just a little bit larger for emphasis but in this shot particularly it looks great.

As for capping the handle side..... Nope.... I could have used a copper cap, but preferred the open face. It has been filled with CA glue and buffed. The entire handle cavity was filled with West Systems Fast Epoxy and the tang pressed in. It is completely solid and sealed.

Never-the-less, it might have also looked good if the ferrule was closed so it completed capping the antler cutoff end with textured copper along with the wall/ring and Japanese doohickey slot thing.

Awesome knife dude!

Me likey.

When I looked at the first photo I thought the ferrule had a band of copper that followed the spine line of the antler... and I thought COOL! Then I noticed I was wrong, as so often happens.

Love the curl!
