First timer

I new to this forum and new to knife making. So with any luck at all this is one of my latest folders (# 7) for your comments and suggestions for improvements. It is a 4 1/2 inch gunstock pattern, smooth bone handles, 440C, nickle silver bolsters and liner. Tell me what you think .....

Hey Shotgunone, welcome to the forums! That just goes to show you how big of a man I man to say that and still hate you for that knife being one of your first ones!!!

Seriously though, nice folder dude. The file work is superb!!

I knife looks good but I hate seeing grind makes. Hand made I feel should always have a mirrow finish. Anything less makes me wonder what I can't see.
But hell thats just me.Otherwise great looking blade

All I see is a nice, consistent satin finish that looks like it was applied with a fine scotchbrite wheel. As to what finish is better (mirror or satin) that is open to debate. In my experiences as a knifemaker, the biggest POS I've ever seen were mirror finished by FNG's trying to disguise an uneven grind (I am guilty of that also). Also, I've found that blades that are satin finised are usually made by experienced makers such as Brian Lyttle (who only satin finishes) who realize that a mirror finish on a using knife will show scratches/marks and basically look like POS first time out. My opinion still stands, nice knife Shotgunone!

Welcome Tony, and VERY nice knife -especially for knife number 7. Are the bolsters and liners integral or did you weld them?

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I was honestly trying for a satin finish. I was using a well worn 320 grit belt wet to get the finish. But with the scanner it really shows up and as a very dark color on the blades. The bolsters are silver soldered on the liners. Handles are dovetailed into the bolster that is why I don't put pins in the sides. Maybe I should????

Number 8 is the same pattern with bone stag scales. Or what ever you call Bone cut and dyed to look like stag. and Number 9 is a bone stag trapper pattern. I might post them so everyone can see what they think about them.

Sweet folder!!!

I love the filework.Superb!!

The finish on the blade is fine by me as is, however, I would like to see it also polished.

I think you have a future as a knifemaker.
