So I just bought my first Cold Steel Code 4 CTS-XHP. This is my first tri-ad-lock and it hurts my thumb every time I close it. Also it's hard to flick open I can get it once every few tries. Does this loosen up after use of does it stay like this?

Thanks

it loosens a little, but the Code 4 that I got like new off of the exchange here was very stiff as well, among the stiffest Tri-Ad I've handled. The only Tri-Ad lock that wasn't a pain to unlock was on a Recon, and even then it's still much harder than any other lock out there. It might loosen with use, but I dunno if it'll ever get loose enough to be comparable to every other back-lock I've handled, since i've never owned a Tri-Ad knife for long enough to find out.

Welcome to BF William, you'd be a whole lot better off to move this question to the Cold Steel forum, probably a lot more fans there.
Enjoy your stay and have fun.

I just got a new Cold Steel Mini Recon I with a tanto blade. I wanted to try a Cold Steel knife with the triad lock. Nice fit and finish for the price but I have the same issues as the OP. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The lock and the flick ability both will get easier over time.

I've never found the lock uncomfortable. But mine has gotten less stiff over time.

Use it, and love it. It will just get better over time.

Mine, after years of flicking open, and use, is just as tight now as when new. No loosening, or wiggle, or rock.

My other lock backs, even when they were tight new, have all gained a bit of movement.

The Triad is a bit uneven. Some I've not had any trouble with and others are a real PITA to close. Trying leaving it half-open (away from any animals, small children or thieving gnomes) overnight a few times. That can help loosen up the action.
