Fishhook First Aide?

as an avid fisherman its sometimes hard to avoid these.. i stepped on a brand new crank bait (bc i was walking on the deck barefooted, dumb i know) and there was no pulling it out bc the skin on your feet is so thick. well mine is atleast. i had to push it through the skin cut the barb and pull it out.. hurt like a ----------

Yep, ain't fun! At about 13 I got a large catfish hook in the side of my head, doc had to cut the eye of the hook off and push it on out, rather than try to make a cut large enough to back the barb out. :eek:
 
Anyone ever try removing a hook with some line?

I thought you were supposed to press down on the hook while pulling on it, but it looks like these guys are just yanking it out...

Yes, I did this for my wife when she got a hook in her thumb, and pushing it through wasn't an option - it would have had to go through the nail. It really does work.

Of course, if the barb is already all the way through, I'd cut the eyelet also...
 
My Dad took two of them out of me back in the 70s. One year then the next. Never did that again!
