Fishin' for pickeral

Great pics - they are fun fish to catch. I went fishing with a buddy of mine in NY and we caught a bunch of them, they ate them but I didn't get to try it so I'm not sure how they taste.

The ones we were catching were pretty darn aggressive. It's cool when you can actually see them stalk the lure and then finally hit it. We had a couple hit the lure just as we were getting to pull the lure out of the water about a foot or two from the boat. That was some fun fishing!

Welcome to the forums.

I'm guessing from the description of how they were biting, you are reffering to Pickeral (U.S.) and not Pickeral (Canada). If thats is correct, you didn't miss much by not eating them.....

If you were reffering to Walleye or Pickeral (Canada), then kick yourself. Those are delicious:thumbup:

Goat- thanks big time for posting. I would have never known that you guys called them that up there.... Like you said, this is a great place to learn something.

hey all,
thanks for the replies. i mostly go for pickerel because i eat my fish and to me it's the best there is and a breeze to clean. bottom bouncers and a floating jig head set-up with leeches has been my go to. i'll take my limit any day of the season on that set-up in 10-20 feet of water mostly. Eaters are best around 14 inches usually in my opinion. and the trolling technique is ALWAYS the dreaded backtrolling.

Walleye are a pleasure to fillet. I love it. The fillets come out so big ,also.

i'm glad all of this came up in discussions. i was confused about all of the differences as far as us and canadian pickerel and such. i'm headin' out now to try and catch some canadian pickerel now!
i asked this in another thread but the answer did no appear (since i was trying to hijack a thread i think haha) but can i do a giveaway as a registered user that has yet to pay a BF membership? it'd be on the W&SS, just wanted to ask first.
