fishing and beckers

went down to the nearby creek to do a bit of fishing, mainly for suckers as I havent seen any brook trout. I spotted a group of a dozen or so decent sized suckers and set up to try to and hook one with a simple worm and hook with some weights to keep it on the bottom. I cut a branch of a nearby dead tree and sharpened one end to stick into the ground for a rod rest. spent a few hours with no success just a few nibbles. I spent some time practicing feather sticks. A softer wood probably would have been better to use.

For some reason, trees don't really like the salt water .

they call it fishing when you don't catch any?

maybe soon!

Gonna try for some trout tomarrow. If their not biting/there spearing suckers instead.

I dont generally have a Becker on me when I'm fishing, but there is always one close by. I've been fishing a few times a week lately, but the bite has slowed down a bit because the fish are spawning and getting ready to spwan. I'm hoping that it will pick up in the next few weeks.

Thanks for sharing Ol Dutch. I haven't been fishing in a long while. You've given me some motivation. I've always thought that the 15 would make a fine fishing knife. That's what I'm going to use mine for anyway. Onya bud, hope you have more luck soon..

I go fishing regularly, but Coastal Fishing, so I unfortunately I do not fancy risking a Becker with too much salt around.

Why?

BK's are hard working knives. As long as it doesn't soak in salt water for hours, all it needs is a good rinse and oil at the end of the day.

Mine goes to the coast....unless you're gonna be in the saltwater for more than a couple days.....they're not so dainty that they can't handle some moisture, so long as you clean it off and oil it when you're done. Hell, I live on a saltwater tidal estuary and mine are doing OK.....

glad I could inspire you. fishing is fun even when not catching anything. its a great excuse to get outside and away from the stresses of life.

Yeah I here ya brother. I used to live on the mighty Clarence River in northern NSW, Australia. Was pretty much fishing all the time. Before the trawlers swept it clean, we'd catch heaps of fish pretty much every time we went. Now all I can get to is the mighty Sewerage Canal that is the Brisbane River. I guess if I want to catch Bull Sharks and/or catfish then I'm set.

im hesitant to use my bk10 to cut up fish. i don't want my knife especially my sheath to smell bad.

Fish live in water.
Take fish out of water.
Clean fish.
Put knife in water.
Clean fish off knife.
Wipe knife.

You ought to try using a knife before you jump to conclusions.

you obviously never been fishing before.

here is a recent pic of some bait i cut up. imagine how disgustingly terrible this smells. not something you would want all over your sheath and knife.

Been using the Kabar fillet alot lately. I dont think ill ever by another brand of cheap fillet knives without buying custom. The best flex ive seen in a fillet knife. Phone was Lmost dead otherwise woulda showed it used. One of those pikes skinned itself in the motor prop.;)

Right. Because blood, fish guts, offal (and their scents) will never, ever, ever wash off. That's why all of the knives we've all used to hunt and fish over the years still reek to high heaven. [emoji58]

These comments are like a train wreck. Complete disaster, but I just can't turn away.
