Fishing in high cold muddy waters

Went fishing yesterday at the salt river in Missouri. River was high, muddy, cold and swift. A cold front was blowing in, not the best fishing conditions. I went to a spot where a creek dumps into the river. It creates a big eddy where the current is not to strong. Had a good day.Caught multiple spieces.

Camera was set in a tree and the timer was used.

No grass carp.

1 Buffalo
2 Drum
3 Sucker of some kind. I caught three different spieces of suckers.
4 Carp
5 Channel cat.

Three channel cats were kept.

That bead on the line is called a speedo bead. The Co. is no longer in bussiness and they are impossible to find. I have a supply that should last a few years. The advantage of it is there is only one knot tied on the entire rig.

Looks like a great fishing trip. Haven't been out in quite a while. Went out about a month ago, but only got one bite. Have been doing more hunting than fishing. Good to see you're still getting out, the fish still bite this time of year.

That is great! Did you catch them all on the same kind of bait? Also, what sort of sinker is that?

I caught twenty to thirty all on worms . Ran out of bait.

The sinker is called a noroll sinker. I have a mold and make them. They dont roll along the bottom as much as a round weight.

Good take, I actually like fishing in the winter, even though I catch less fish I seem to catch bigger ones. Chris

Those are 7'6" graphite "flipping" rods made for Bass fishing. They work well on hard pulling fish. One reel is an older Quantum 1310 "I consider it the Mora of casting reels" the other an expensive Ambassaduer Morrum. The Quantum holds its own compared to the Morrum. Both spooled with 15 lb Trilene Big Game. I like the bright green line for this type of fishing.

reels are the same but we are using 10'6" rods rated for 10 to 25lb test with a soft parabolic action that bends right from the handle, need the bounce for the crazy runs and surges of big salmon. Braid for the mainline and 10 to 15 lb maxima is the gear up here.

That would be a lot of fun.
