fishing knives of quality?

My favorite fishing knife of all time is one I sold about a year ago. I'll have to skim a picture from the website because I can't find my old pics...Its quite unique...:)

"The Fisherman's Auto-Angler "Spring-Hammer/Knife" by Hubertus-Solingen features a spring activated "Fisherman's Hammer" made of solid nickel-silver. This "heavy ball" is designed to stun the fish, and keep it from flopping out of your boat, off the dock, etc. Also featured with the auto-hammer is a bottle opener , and fish scaler."

That's a nice fish bonker. A lot of these old fishing knives had a hole through the back bolster. Did that serve another purpose other than a lanyard hole?

That Pegley-Davies is beyond cool! I love the hook sizer imbossed in the scale.

This one probably isn't the first image that pops into your head at the mention of "fishing knife", but it is a fishing knife and it was made by Puma. My parents gave it to me. I don't remember what decade, though. The ball is a counter weight so you can weigh the fish.

Hmmm... this is an old scan. not very clear. I'll try to replace it with another when I get the chance.

The knife forms a balance. There are notches with weight markings. You suspend the knife from the center thong. You hang the fish from the blade, moving the fish from notch to notch until the knife is horizontal. You look at the marking on the notch from which the fish is suspended. That is how much your fish weighs.

You can see that the notch at the tip is marked "10-oz". If you hang the fish at the tip and the knife goes horizontal, the fish weighs 10-oz.

Very interesting Karfeng- I have one - so thats what the marking on the blade are for.
Gr8 info - What do you think its worth - I've seen them for around $150 -200?

Nothing wrong with an old thread, if it is still interesting.

The prices can vary widely for the Puma fish knife. Vintage knives in good shape start at your range.

At the recent gun show, there was a Puma dealer with new stock. Same models, lower quality. The new version of the fish knife is not at all up to the quality of the older ones. Made in Asia, not sure where, goes for more like $100.

Dox belonged to Dad. Skandi I bought in Germany several years ago. Helle brand.

Thanks for the comments, ismaris!! I particularly like your Dox!!

The great inventor, George Schrade, was always improving tools! He created a bone-jigging machine, that changed how handles are made!!
Here is a knife for Camping and Fishing; a slot-knife with a locking blade, scaler, and a combination can-opener-caplifter, and a fork! Fastened together with a snap-ring!! Nice tool in stainless steel!
The scales are folded over to structure each half, making a separate, comfortable tool on each side. Nicely done, George!! R.I.P!!;) He died ~1940.Geo Schrade 1.jpg Geo Schrade 2.jpg
