fishing knots?

I have been working on this knot. Somehow I can make it work with 1/4" rope, but when I try 8 lb mono, not a chance. No siree Bob. I can barely see that stuff, and feel it even less so. Any pointers on mastering this knot, or maybe suggestions to a more user-friendly alternative?

PS sticking a screwdriver in that middle loop (and thus keeping it open until insertion) seems to help. :D ;)

Keep the tag ends LONG.
You waste a little but less than if you keep cutting it out and tying it over and over.

You have enraged the gods by asking too many questions. Now go fishing.

Two small-medium pike yesterday and one small one the day before that. I live next to a pond LOADED with them. :D:D

Occasional small LMB, but I don't really count them. To me they are more of a pest, nuisance. I would much rather catch a carp than a bucketmouth.

That's some fine topwater fishing right there.
I take the trebles off my poppers and only use a single tail hook.

btw, do both of the set-ups in that video involve a hook? Also, I seem to have read that the Palomar is a 90+ % knot where the Rebeck is 65-70%. Yet in that video the Rebeck is the "winner". I am confused.

Any knot I tie I wet no matter what line I'm using braid floro or mono my grandfather preached it so it's just habit

Don't believe everything you see on some of these video's. In fishing, the knot is constantly wet, that's the difference between a shop test and real world testing. I've straightened a 5 ought hook using 50lb braid and a palomar knot. That's why I now use the palomar only.
The other thing to consider is the importance of cinching the knot, out on the water in the wind/rain, choppy water tying a knot can be a challenge.

Don't know about the videos, haven't watched them in years... thought you might like them.
Stick with a couple proven winners and don't get caught up in the minutiae.

The others I'll add to my list, specialty knots that I don't use often:
The Blood Knot
The Bimini Twist
The Spider Hitch
The Offshore Swivel Knot.

Go practice :D

I spit on the knot to lube it. Some knots will slip with braid. Best thing to do is tie various knots with different line and test them. You'll find out which ones work for you.

This.

And I use the uni knot both on braid and mono. Haven`t noticed that the knot weakens the line as it usually breakes outside the knot.

This is my favorite knot I know (and can tie). The only advice I could give you is just be patient lol - its can be a pain...

A much simpler knot that is similar but not as quite as nices is the surgeons knot..
