Fishing license

I just talked to my son who lives in Tampa and all he pays is $17.00 a year for freshwater fishing.!
Heck one of my Rod & Reels cost me ( combo) $152.00 ) then you figure in my Boat & Motor plus gas & food ect. ~ ect. it cost me about between $850 & $1000 just to go fishing a year and that is not including my hunting as we don't want to even go there.! And I am glad to be able to hunt & fish knowing my money goes back in to our conservation as far as stocking & salaries for our game wardens who put there lives on the line every time they go to out to work.!
Think you need to get your priorities straight ~~ nobody should fish for free and if you love it you pay for it..!***

I miss being 16. $55 a year to catch and release. And they say USA is free. ..... feel ripped off by uncle same for taxing me for this......
It is the land of the free. Free people as in freedom and liberty. Not free stuff. At least that's what was intended.

And it wasn't Uncle Sam who charged you. It was your state. Resident combined fresh and salt water license is $40 in my state. Fresh water only is $23. Salt water only is $17.50.

Don't want to pay? Don't play. Such revenue is necessary to ensure we have adequate outdoor spaces and healthy species.

What happens if you fish in international waters only? Do licensing requirements still apply? :D:D

Yes.You go by regulations where you launch from.I fish areas offshore 50-80 miles out where boats from MD,NJ,VA,DE fish.Even though we are fishing the same water each state has different size and creel limits.

I spend a lot of time kayak camping and fishing along the Green River that runs through Mammoth Cave National Park in KY. No fishing license is required on the 21 miles of the river thru the park.

Pretty much sums it up.

Some years the budget at our house for fishing and hunting licenses is tight. I get that, so what I do is tell my family that what I want for birthdays or Christmas is a fishing or deer hunting license. I enjoy it, it always fits and when I am done it was good for me and them. I come home with a better, clearer mind and good exercise.
As I get out to fish maybe a dozen times a summer I don't think twice about inviting some crappies and sunfish home as guests of honor. The lake I fish was surveyed and was disproportionally busy with smaller panfish so the best way to fix that is with cornmeal and hot oil.

I won't eat anything from fresh waters in FL. I mainly fish for large mouth bass and cat fish for catch and release. I can't imagine eating those panfish brim. They probably taste like mud.

Though if I fished salt water and caught mahi mahi, snapper, grouper salmon, tuna then I'd probably eat them.

It's 32 bucks here in Colorado
I catch and devour
Cause I need to catch 32 bucks worth of trout to break even... :)

Wrong way to think about a license fee. You are supporting the conservation efforts of your state with the license fee. Worth it even if you never go fishing.

Exactly.... well said 22-rimfire, thank you!

I've been buying the Golden Sportsman License ($100 + a year) for many years and consider it money well spent.

With the prices of fresh wild fish meat per pound, one decent saltwater fish will add up to the cost of your license. In Florida, that will take about 15 minutes of your line in the water!
