Fishing- salt water handline rig?

Well I took off the bowfishing hawser line and replaced with some 12 lb. mono, fitted a simple temporary handle across the back and went into the yard. Tied on a ~3/8 oz. bell sinker and let her rip. Casts like a dream! With almost no effort and a simple underhand swing, 25 yards easy. Winding back on took a little technique to keep it on the reel as I went faster but it was manageable. I found it a little easier to keep the guide hand steady and move the reel hand around instead. A wider flange on the rear would help too. I also see a need for some kind of line holder to prevent snarls when it is put down.

I am definitely going to take this out for a real test the next time I go. So far it looks like a great compact set up. I've got a little better handle made up and when the paint dries, I'll mount it and post another pic if anyone's interested.

Made Akabu's product yesterday for lees than $10 and plan on wrapping it with 40lb test (so as to not cut the hands too badly).

Smart on the heavier Line, add a lighter leader of 10-20 pound line maybe 20 feet so as it will break first before you get draged in:D and pics of your setup.

Excellent counsel Akabu!

My father had recommended 100 lb test :)- I'd lose my glasses for sure.

I'll get a digital camera tonight.

Thanks again,
