anyone know a good place too hook them? also whats a good rig to use? since i know catfish and bass both eat them i need a rig for each. also has anyone heard of using mice for catching bass? my neighbor told me about it over the weekend. im just wondering where you hook them things. he said to let them swim on the surface and the bass just snatch them. they also dont bring in small bass but 5lbs was the smallest he caught on them.

last time i checked it isnt but ill check again. the bullfrog is not a game that has a bag limit or size limit or anything. not even a season.

Some places and people might consider it cruelty to animals. I doubt Texas would be that way except maybe some of the big cities. Where I grew up it is legal to use stuff like that for bait any you can run up to 6 set lines with 6 hooks each per person. Many places would have a heart attack and send you to jail for such a practice.

call the fish and game department and they will tell you since they would be the ones to give you a ticket if it was illegal

When I was "addicted to" fly tying and fly fishing, some of the flies I tied were deer hair "bugs" in the shape of small mice and of frogs.
The imitations could be pretty successful at times for bass, and for large trout in areas where the real thing might fall into the water.

Using the real animal might get your fishing trip picketed by PETA or some other radical animal rights group....(the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals folks...not the People Eating Tasty Animals folks).

Might try imitations first...just a suggestion.

Jr., you should invite Richard J. down when you go fishing???? He looks like a Ole Bullfrog.  You would have to go fishing in the Gulf for sharks and just hook him through the back. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!

Based on the information for the website that you listed, you "do" need a fishing license to fish on private property. Other than that, I see nothing about "method of capture" in the fishing regulations that would make it illegal to use frogs for bait.

However, if it were me, I'd build a little fire, get out a frying pan and have "frog legs" for a snack while fishing!

So, get a fishing license and either use the frogs for bait or for dinner!

Ickie - they are too small for eating. i do have my fishing license already too.

IG - i wouldnt want to pollute the waters with you or richard. :D

John - PETA cant come on this property for one. second, i dont care what PETA thinks about me using frogs or mice or fish for bait.

i still need to get a few more and am also trying to get ahold of my buddy trevor about that boat. hes not answering his phone for some reason. not sure if he got grounded from it or something.

Frogs are bait. Screw Peta, they don't care about animals. They only care about being PC and 'caring'.
Hook them through the mouth but so they can get a breath now and then. The more lively you keep them, the better. If you have a harness, hook them through the thigh muscles. If you get a big one, post a picture...

you better believe i will post a picture. i may just get a bunch of them and go to another part of the lake until the fish come back into our little section. and im still trying to get ahold of my friend with the aluminum boat.

I don't know why, but I have this picture in my head of the young Squee sitting in the middle of a row boat providing power while his two bullfrog buddies are fishin for crappie fore and aft.:D

I haven't had a chance to go fishing with them. Besides I only have 2 bullfrogs. I still need to catch more. I'm about to get ready for my date tonight anyways.
