I've been out in my canoe fishing a lot this spring its been a real good year catching a lot of blue cat. I've been cutting up a lot of chicken gizzards with my yellow CV trapper and I was wondering what knife or knives you guys and galls carry when your out wetting a line

i carry a canoe in my canoe:cheerful:
for bleeding/gutting a fish, i only used a fixed blade.
for cutting up bait, line, leaders etc, really like a wharncliffe!

DANG nice fish Fez!!

Here's a small one i caught

I carry a stainless Opi on a lanyard on my vest most times. Should probably just start bringing safety scissors, for some reason when I'm on the water I get careless and do stupid stuff.and, much as I love my Leatherman, it's like carrying a doggone boat anchor in your vest, so it stays in the car.

I usually have a cheap fillet knife in the tacklebox and something like a Spyderco dragonfly in my pocket for cutting fishing line, etc.
I've always been hesitant to use a nice traditional to cut bait and other messy stuff. This year, I think I'll bring along one of my old Camillus or Western stockmans (stockmen?) and see just how stinky messy I can get it. And I can always try whittling while not catching fish.

I've been carrying a Super Tinker fishing, but have a GEC fish knife waiting to go out this year. First purpose made fish knife I've ever had.

I mostly use fixed blades like the Fällkniven F2 Custom in my avatar,but here's the Northwoods Scagel #17 on duty.

It is possible to open onehanded, while the other hand holds the fish.
Traditional with highly finished bonescales, smooth moving parts and a tight lock.

I haven't had a chance to take this one out fishing yet, but I have a suspicion that it'll perform admirably.

Nice one Mikael :thumbup::thumbup:

Barry, love the acrylic on that one. 53 Cuban Pen, I assume? Looks great, and nice photo composition. Making me rethink my desire to get one of those in ebony. :thumbup:

This Menefee fillet knife and John Lloyd "fish-rat" served me well all last summer in the boat.

Pukkoman; that is a 68 pattern - the "White Owl" Tidioute model with no bail.IMG_6129 - Copy.jpg
