Fisk American Bowie project ~ 318,477,740 layers = 2016 US census

Just looking at this makes me feel so AMERICAN!!! Im proud just to get a look at this knife. You are a master of the art for sure :)

Two questions: how do you keep count of that many layers? And how did he source all of those steels some of them I would think are un-obtainable

Thanks buddy for the great pair of photos.

The steels took over 3 years to gather up. All have paper work stating were they came from and from who. Some sources I will not state public but the buyer will have all of it.

Having been sick the day we had math in school I figured and refigured the layer count, wrote it all down in the book, then posted it on my shop work board then simply marked it off and took photos whenever changes took place. I had to watch as each time I added steel as I went that changed up the cadence of the count. Ot at least for me.

Absolutely stunning. Mr. Fisk you never fail at leaving me speechless.

Damn.

Fisk, you never cease to amaze me. But I'm never surprised at how amazed I am.

The sheath alone is suitable for framing.

What's the wood?

"There is an etching of George Washington tying his horse up to the tree this wood came from. He tied his horse to this walnut tree when he checked on his distillery. He made both rye whiskey and a peach Brandy. The knife comes with a bottle of George Washington recipe rye whiskey."

"The handle is from the George Washington Horse Chestnut tree. He planted 13 trees, one for each colony. This was the last tree and it was cut down about the year 2000. This was the tree planted for the Georgia colony."

Threads like this should be bumped more often here.
Just phenomenal.

Just an aside: I ordered one of Jerry's knives a while back and he Emailed me asking if I wanted his preferred convex grind.
My reply was "of course I want your grind!"
Who wouldn't?

Bumping threads is often frowned upon here for some reason? Although, maybe this one isn't too old to be bumped? I don't know. I don't understand it has it often alerts me to neat stuff I hadn't seen before.

it's cool that you get options, that's one of the great qualities that custom knives present

this is a good example of a thread that gets bumped- less than 2 years old, and the subject matter involves one of custom and handmade knives' preeminent artists:thumbsup:
