Hi Folks, well it is less than 2 weeks until the Fisk Show and I an thrilled to be a part of this show this year. I have five knives completed and I may finish one more if they do not drop off too much more steel to texture. I have some very new knives to bring to the show, but I have one knife I am really happy about and this knife has a story. I started it over 2 years ago when I was starting my MS journey but frustration set in with self doubt and loathing. I bit off more than I could handle at that time, I found myself hating the process so I put it on hold and worked on my skills. Two years later and with a much better attitude I went at it again but started a new dagger with a much more doable guard. It was still very hard but doable, I passed my Master smith test and then started my knives for Jerry”s show. After I finished the first 3 knives, I dug out this old thing and went back at it and things started going my way. I bent up and pierced the guard. made a new handle and switched out the bronze for gold and did a gold wire and fluted black wood handle. to cap it off I made the lady of the lake to hold it up I love to sculpt with steel and in the further I plan to do more stands like this for my work. I call it the Lady of the Lake with the Dreams of Grandeur Dagger because when I made it I had such dreams of grandeur. the gold is domed the damascus is my W’s taffy pattern the lady is forged pipe she has a gold necklace and a copper skirt.

Wow!, Dave, just wow! Pretty damned impressive for a blacksmith. Have fun at Jerry's.

This is one of my favorite over all works of art. Exceptional work Dave.

I know the feeling you describe above. Creating such a work is no accident. All the motions are planned ahead of time. Perfecting the process is the primary goal with the knife/art being the by product. Very well done.

That is CRAZY cool, Dave!

looking forward to seeing it at Jerry's

The Dagger on it's own is absolutely amazing with it dual guards and other attributes. Adding the skillful and artistic sculpture as a display stand, well it's over the top.

thanks folks Jon it has the JS mark on one side and the MS mark on the other side as the blade was already marked Js on one side but I finished it as a MS so I put that mark on it also it is part of the story.

David -- that is one totally awesome work of ART!!! Must say that this Fisk extravaganza will be one that I will regret not being able to attend as I will miss viewing this piece in person. Whomever obtains this one will have a centre piece to a collection that will be totally beyond belief. Thanks for sharing something that all of us in BFC should be able to just sit back, be amazed and totally enjoy. A beautiful dagger and terrific stand and something I am glad to have just opened and viewed and am being amazed and enjoying. David, it is truly spectacular!!! Congratulations my friend.

That's beautiful, both the knife and the Lady! the guard construction looks like those metal puzzles...finishing it shouldn't have been a walk in the park!!!
The impossible made possible by a Mastersmith!!

I enjoy your soul visible in your pieces lately. This one is even more so. Very artistic David.
