ok, so I have been curious for a long time about this. I currently have 23 1/2 fiskars axe choppiong axe, and I love this axe, it's awesome. How ever, at 40 bucks, I have a hard time believing that a GB wouldn't be better. my question is this: Does anyone out there have both, and how do they compare?

Yeah, the GBs are higher quality, obviously. They have wooden handles, though, which to some folks is a negative. GBs come with finer grinds and edges, and their handles can be easily replaced if they break. But the Fiskars axes are excellent for the price, and I tend to go with them because they perform well enough, have more durable handles and can be easily modded to perform much better than they perform out of the box.

I have bucked and split many cord of wood and the wood-handled splitting axes are much more forgiving on your hands/joints in terms of vibration. That's my experience with GB vs Fiskars. I use the fiskars if only splitting a cord or two, as it is very effective, but if going for more wood at a time, I move to the GB.

Fiskars are good for the money, but you'll really enjoy the quality and performance of the GB products.
