Fiskars determination

FWIW

I have an old Gerber model from back before the Fiskars was marketed here. It is also a Fiskars manufactured product, not coated and with a different handle profile. This one definately is stainless. It has spent some time feeding the fire, being left in the rain, without any harm.

Some of the Fiskers full size ax are more wedge shape that extends on the side past the nylon so it should be more wear resistant.

I have the garden ax and didn't like the orange coating so I scrapped it off and use OD spray paint.

The Gerber ones come with black nylon fabric sheaths.

Wow, I just got finished ordering the little "Gator" model Gerber. It is on closeout at SMKW for $14.99, and the exchange-a-blade saw is on closeout as well, for $6.99. I went ahead and got one of each.

I love my exchange a blade saw for hunting. One blade pruins trees for blind building or if limbs are in the way and one works great for going through bone.

This in interesting I have an older made in Finland Gerber and it is carbon steel and came with like a laquer on the blade to protect it before you bought it I always thought.

The Gerber version is different. It uses stainless steel instead of plain-ol carbon steel. I've no information on whether there is a performance difference between the two.

What type of a sheath does the Gerber version come with?

It is a nylon sheath that covers the head of the axe. It has a loop for a belt and also a small loop for handing it from something like a hook or nail.

The one I bought has the little saw that fits in the handle. Haven't used the saw yet.

Wow. I looked at the pictures, and thought... wow.... from those little fiskars hatchets. :)

Went to the local store, Meijer, they actually have then on sale for 16 bucks..... I think I might get one..... compare it to my cold steel trail hawk... I bet the hatchet will win at chopping from those pictures.... although they are different tools. Looks like my tools for the woods is evolving, and expanding......:)

While I was there at Meijer, I took the sharpener next to the axe, the one longbow was talking about. I passed the hatchet through 20 times, and the hatchet could then shave hair off my leg. Impressive. :) I really should get one, all that for under 20 bucks.

Thanks for the review. :)

I'm going to try one myself. Having used the Wetterlings, and GB axes I've become a "axe snob". Meanwhile I'm carying a Mora all over hell and gone, telling everyone how great they are for the price, and I don't own a Fiskars:confused:

Like the orange tip.

haha, I know what you mean. :D

I want to pick one of these up now aswell, I have a gerber pack axe, and thats a nice sharp little hatchet, infact its wicked sharp. On trees like poplar and anything softer, it goes rite through them. I like the light weight factor aswell.

Just a tip.

I have couple of Fiskars axes. The grip is not the best in winter conditions.
Take some araldit epoxy and brush it on. Sprinkle some sand on the wet epoxy and let dry. Fool proof and If you dont like it... scrape it off.

I know, I called all my family and cohorts and nobody wanted to jump onboard, and I just didn't need, and couldn't afford 3 Gators plus the saw.:)
