Are the Fiskars "folding" actually this one slides and locks into place any good???

I checked one out tonight and might pick one up when the go on sale. Lightweight and not too big.

Thoughts???

I have one and have found it to be a good cutter, with pretty aggressive teeth.

I actually bent the blade on one of the older Gerber/fiskars folders on some very hard wood. But I have not had that with the slide outs mabey because the blade is shorter.

I have heard that Silky saws are better but I have no experience with them.

I have never heard anything bad about them. there are better saws out there i am sure, but the fiskars are hard to beat for their price.

I have a new one but have not been out to try it out. I am a big fan of little saws. The Silky is probably the best of the best. I have tried almost all of them.

Thanks guys:thumbup:

Pit, they are a bit more blunt at the tip. The Bahco seems similar to many other folding versions on the market. The Fiskars is only 21.95 Cdn regular price at Canadian Tire....so a bit cheaper than the Bahco.

I will go check out the Silky version...good online place to check them out???

Thanks again
Craig

I have both the Fiskars and a Silky 170. While the Silky is the better cutter, it is also more than twice as heavy. The Silky weighs 7.3 oz. The Fiskars is just a tad over 3. If I KNOW I'm going to need a saw, I'll carry the Silky. Otherwise, the Fiskars is what goes in the pack. It's a very good saw.

I've been using these for awhile:

I haven't really noticed a huge difference in the way they cut...they all work well.
I can't recall exactly how much I paid for them, but I don't think any of them were more than $30.00.
IIRC the Fiskars was around $15.00.
There is an obvious size & weight difference among these saws, but I carry any of them in my pocket & really don't notice them there.

I took the Silky pictured above and the Bacho Out to the shop. I took a limb that I had cut off of a ash tree and put it in the vice, I took the Silky and cut through it in 20 strokes. I then went a few inches up the limb and cut it with the Bacho. I tried to use about the same weight and length of stoke the Bacho cut it in 27 strokes. Both were good clean cuts and while thew Silky cut with a few less strokes and the Bacho cut with a bit less effort. Neither took much effort at all. There are some good saws out there and the two I tried are amoung the best. I plan to do a test and review of about ten of these saws very shortly and will post pictures and results.

Don't hold me to this but I think My silky is the 170. I don't have it right handy to check.:)

Absolutly love mine, easy to buy, cheap to replace and comfy. The locks have never failed on me.

I have the slide saw, I like it alot. Only 3 oz, plenty sturdy for me needs. Works well up to 2.5", can be used up to about 4" with some effort.

I always carry mine dayhiking, overnight camping, and when I am carrying my bigger saws as well. Too handy to leave behind.

The slide saw is a good cutter and works well, but the screw/unscrew sliding action is rather slow compared to a classic folding saw. I'd rather get a Bahco.

Eric, Canadian Tire:thumbup: I am just waiting for the spring Fiskars sale to pick one up.

Thanks again everyone
