Fit & Finish

I just wanted to throw in my $0.02 worth here. This is slightly off topic but still relevant.

Where I live there are no knife shops, or any other shops for that matter. The nearest knife shop is 80Km away and it has a VERY limited range. There are no knife shows and opportunities for seeing new and different knives are extremely limited. This is why conversations like in this thread are interesting and important to me. I can browse the web all I like, (yes, I might be in a rural area but we do have electricity and phones :) ), and sometimes I see knives that I'd like to own but there is no way for me to tell if it just happens to look good in the pic or it really is a good knife. This forum is where I find out. Thanks guys, it's all useful stuff, keep it coming.

On a related note, if you are recommending a particular maker, and you happen to know a website address, it would be really useful if you could include that with your comments. Thanks.

I'd say the best fit & finish folder I have is a J.W. Smith mini-Scimitar. It's really amazing. I love the thing. Sebenzas are no slouch either- excellent action, especially for production.

For a fixed blade, I have some older Craig Steketee knives that are excellent. Robert Hankins does a great job, too. I was very impressed with the Camillus OVB Fisk Bowie, as well. My Busse knives are flawless.

I guess this topic is as subjective as heck. In fact, I'd rather split up "fit" and "finish" into two separate categories as some knives may be high-rated in the former but less than high-rated in the latter. Further, fit and finish should not be rated on a one-time or once in awhile issue(s) but rather rated on day-in and day-out long-term output.

Thusly conditioned, my vote goes to the Sebenza. There's no denying those CNC machines for producing consistently accurate cut parts and to the CRK staff for putting those parts together as only they know how.
