fitting handle scales on a tapered tang hunting knife?

I just don't know how to fit the handle scales up against the guard on a tapered tang(you know like a Loveless hunting knife) could you guys show me how to do it?--Thanks--CHKM

Do you have the knife there you want to do, or is this maybe months away, or even not at all? Frank
 
Some do trial and error. For me it always seems in the neighborhood of 4 degrees. But, I would say that if you need this info you probably have larger road blocks to completing a knife
 
Here's my way. If I use 3/16 stock and take it down to 1/16 thick, that leaves 1/16 removed from each side of the tang. That being the case, if your handle scales are flat, you can use a piece of 1/16 G10 to prop up the end of your scale. This works when you are fitting up the tang to the bolster, and it also works to keep your holes drilled square to the center line of the knife.
