Hi all,
I am new to hawks. I did one years ago out of a ball pien and used a hammer handle.
I just made one in damascus using a hawk eye drift I got at a hammer in a couple of years ago along with some maple hawk handles.
My question is do you guys just wedge the head on. Any tips or tricks to keeping it in place. Mine held up fine and didnt move during chopping or hammering, but did come loose throwing it. I'm just wondering if anyone has done something more permanent. colars, pins, rawhide, epoxy?
Thanks for any insight.

A little JB Weld or a little epoxy sure doesn't hurt. I also use a piece of pipe with an inside diameter a little larger than the haft. You want the pipe to be a few inches longer than the haft. I'll slip the pipe over the haft and give it a few taps with a hammer. I've found that works the best for me.

One way:

Well fitted - eye to haft

driven on hard

soaked handle in Boiled Linseed oil to swell the handle, and keep the haft flexible

I have also use JB weld on thowing hawks. I sometimes use a piece of thin leather if the eye is not exactly fitting in a certain spot. Then drive on like Raymond suggested.
